The Original House of Soul

The staff was incredibly friendly and the owner was a great host. The vibe fit perfectly with the themed food of Soul with an outside courtyard next to a wine bar. The food far exceeded my expectations, the servings were generous, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy, the snapper fish was on point and fresh, and the smothered pork was my favorite and couldn't stop eating it after I was full since I was also picking at everyone else's plate (oink!). We are definitely coming back!

I got take out, so I can not really comment on the ambience, however the food is well seasoned. The proportion size of the meat is larger than the sides, which is different but good (I'm not complaining). The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is the use of Styrofoam take out containers and the location of the restaurant is not wheelchair-accessible.

'22/1 1st time customer/review:
It was a slow Tuesday after a holiday weekend. When seated by waitress, we were not informed that they were out of a handful of menu items. We found out when we went to place our order. They were out of too many items, so we did not stay for dining.

Hoping for better luck when try again in future. The menu (see posted pic) has promise--turkey, cornmeal catfish, gumbo, ribs (all out today's visit).

Note for mobility impaired: This unique, sit-down restaurant is located below street-level requiring decent via stairs.
