Personal favorites: The Salt and Pepper Chicken wings - Nice and meaty with a good batter and seasoning. Perfect for parties. The Egg Drop Soup: Everything an egg drop soup should be and none of the filler. Plus their crunchy won tons are on point. The BBQ Pork - great flavor and always made fresh. Honestly, everything is good here. Would recommend to anyone.”

“Food here is always fresh, filling, and satisfying. We ordered a Greek chicken salad, fried zucchini fries, and to chicken strip meals. They have generous portions. We visited on Easter, there were plenty of people, yet our food was not delayed. Staff handled the large crowed very well. Clean eating booths and clean restrooms a huge plus!”

“Finally El Cajon has a grade A+ above all others restaurant in the Black Bear Diner. Beautiful outside as well as inside. Felt like we were in a mountain town.☺️ My hubby & I ordered breakfast. He had the big portion of 2 classic eggs over easy, thick slices bacon, country potatoes that were very tasty and toast. I had the less smaller size breakfast of 1scrambled egg which was delicious, sausage, tasty hash browns & rye toast. Variety of foods & even a healthy "Fit & Focused foods available☺️ Service is excellent and a lot of the wait staff actually had smiles on their faces when they connected with other guests which is something you rarely see in the industry. Well done staff training!!. Staff is efficient, professional and welcoming to all. Love the carved in quotes on back of beautiful wood chairs at dining counter. As we were leaving the restaurant had a huge waiting line in entryway to restaurant & it was only 11:15 am. This speaks positive volumes about this "A+ restaurant!" Thank you Black Bear Diner for making it a favorite for East County!!!!”

“This is a relatively small restaurant, but the food is fabulous and portions are large. There were four of us and we ordered Pad Thai with pork, Pad Se Ue with duck, Hawaiian Fried Rice with shrimp and Red Curry with chicken, and an order of egg rolls. The service was excellent. The wait staff are friendly and our dinner was served quickly. The egg rolls came first, and then the main dishes. We all ate our fill and still had tons to box up to take home and there was enough for a second dinner the next night. The Red Curry was amazing. The blend of flavors in each dish was better than the last. Definitely try this place out, you will be back!!!”

Two things that are very important to me at Mexican restaurants is REAL tortilla chips, not out of a bag, and REAL fried taco shells, not the phony Taco Bell type. This restaurant had both. It was a large property with plenty of room and a comfortable ambiance. They also had a live band performing. Really a nice restaurant, recommend it.”
