Food is really good here. Nothing crazy spicy and very enjoyable! A lot of options and plenty of non spicy food as well!
It gets busy very quickly so come early or get a reservation.
Highly recommend!
Excellent food. Had lunch here and seriously debated going back for dinner because I didn’t know when I’d be in the area again. Yunnan/Sichuan flavors are nailed and the plating of some of the dishes are stunning.
Staff was on top of our every need. Dinning environment is well lit with natural and overhead light.
Hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area! We usually go to their Fremont location, which specializes in Hunan cuisine. This place is more about Yunnan Cuisine, and literally every single dish we ordered was amazing. Even my friends who usually don’t eat spicy food were so impressed with their food that they are starting to eat spicy because of this place!
A hidden gem in East San Mateo. We didn’t know there was an authentic Yunnan restaurant until we stumbled upon this one on a whim.
The restaurant was always packed during peak times, so we tried to avoid these hours (even though we just visited twice, one before 12pm and one after 1pm). The restaurant has nice decorations, is quite neat and clean. The seatings are also spacious.
The waiters were very nice and friendly. They were very quick and attentive. The food ordering here is also a bit different. You scan the QR code on the table, choose your food and hit Submit. A waiter will come to your table very quickly to make sure you double check what you ordered.
Because this restaurant serves authentic Yunnan and Hunan cuisine, I have to warn that most of the dishes are extremely spicy 🌶️ not the level of your hot peppers sauce, but a whole different one.
My favorite dishes here, as of now, are Preserved Century Eggs with Grind Peppers and Beef rolls with Mints. Super spicy yet really delicious. We also order one Steamed eggs with Matsutake, but this one is kind plain to me.
This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose. It is regularly super packed because it is so popular for the quality of the food. Most of the dishes are oriented around Szechuan and Hunan cuisine, but recently they introduced a few specialties from the Yunnan province. Today we had some of those Yunnan style dishes, and it was really special. The prices are reasonable for high-quality Chinese food - this is not a cheaper fast casual place like Panda. And of you order fish you will pay for good quality. This is a restaurant that is better enjoy it if you go with a group of people so that you can order more things and try a bit of everything. the only annoying thing about this place is that it is so popular that it sometimes requires a wait to get in, especially during popular dinner times. Generally, I would say it IS worth the wait - there is a reason that so many people from the area come here for dinner. Definitely a good spot to bring out of town guests too, though you should be thoughtful about whether you can handle spicy Chinese food. A pro tip is to park in the parking lot behind the restaurant not in front of the restaurant, which often gets full very quickly.
