Bennett's BBQ

We’ve been eating at Bennett’s for a long time. We love the food there and have enjoyed the staff. However, we came into eat Saturday (1/11) night around 6pm. My girlfriend and I had a new server I had not seen before, but she was a really nice girl; very attentive. She was nice, helpful, and running around helping other coworkers out. However, shortly after we started eating we overheard other employees talking poorly about the girl. They’d laugh as she’d walk by and snicker. They were making jokes about the girl and just being nasty. I don’t know what it was all about, but around that time my girlfriend went to the bathroom.

My girlfriend ran into our server in there. The girl began throwing up, a lot! My girlfriend asked if she was okay, the girl barely answered. She kept getting sick. About ten minutes later the girl emerged from the bathroom and kept working; trying to help others and do her own work. I’ve worked in the restaurant business before. I’m not stranger to the policies, the “ins” and “outs” if you will. I heard enough to know our server was sick, needed to go home, but was still there while other employees talked poorly about her; loudly enough for us to over hear, nonetheless. I’m pretty disappointed to be honest. I know there’s petty drama at every restaurant, but to make a server stay while she’s sick and others are talking trash about her is cruel and unacceptable.

I’m hopeful the manager, Melissa, nips this in the bud and takes care of her employees. With all that being said, our server was amazing! I felt bad she was there working sick, it is a huge health code violation, but I’m fairly certain she was not staying by choice. We love the food there and have enjoyed the staff. Hopefully the “veteran” servers will start keeping their drama at home and learn how to treat others with more respect and kindness. On any account, we will return and will begin asking for the new server to wait on us!

Great food that came out quickly! We went in on a Saturday around 6 pm with 6 people in our party. We were seated quickly and our server Ryan was very attentive. He is honestly one of the best servers we have had at any restaurant ever! He knew the menu, was able to give helpful suggestions and even saved the day with a bubbly soda for my sons upset stomach. We will definitely come back, and hopefully Ryan will be working that day as well!

Texas style dry rubbed smoked meat. Mmmm. They have a good selection of barbecue sauces and some excellent hot wings. The prices are reasonable and the wait staff is attentive. This is not a luxurious place, but is slightly rustic. It makes me think about a 1950's country bar in Texas or Oklahoma. Emphasis is on the food here, though.
