With so many amazing BBQ restaurants in Middle Georgia, I'm positive it's hard to compete. However, this meal was difficult to even get down. I ordered a BBQ pulled pork plate with french fries and macaroni and cheese. My husband, who doesn't care much for BBQ but fancies himself a burger connoisseur ordered the cheeseburger and french fries.
THE FOOD: **
I'll start by saying that both of us enjoyed our main entree. The BBQ pork was perfection and the sauces on the table were well chosen. I much prefer the tomato based sauce to the vinegar and it was just my taste. Absolutely delicious! My husband ranked the burger a 6.5 out of 10 (which a pretty good ranking for him!). It was seasoned well and cooked perfectly.
The french fries, on the other hand, were salted within an inch of their lives. The were so salty, they were practically inedible. My lips were chapped by the end of the meal.
I expect a few things from a BBQ joint, and quality mac n' cheese is one of those things. I was truly the most disappointed in their version of this dish. The noodles were overcooked and became the same texture as the MASSIVE amounts of cheese they threw on top. I never thought I'd question TOO much cheese, but here we are. There was no seasoning, definitely no good texture (like a crusty cheese or a bread crumb). It was just a gelatinous wad of gummy noodles and cheese. Very disappointing.
THE ATMOSPHERE: ***
I think the general design of the restaurant is very good. I, myself, prefer a booth and there are none in this restaurant, but that's nothing to lose a star over. Instead they have several tables with metal chairs. We liked that there were high partitions, making the dining experience more intimate and private. We also liked the decor and the table sizes. Very well executed! The ordering and drink stations are well laid out and very customer friendly. The entire restaurant is very clean. The one major complaint is the lighting. Florescent lighting on one side of the restaurant and painful-on-the-eye exposed edison bulbs on the other. All of the intimacy was lost because we were sitting under very uncomfortable lighting. If I have any recommendation, even over the terrible macaroni, I'd suggest to the owners that they find a way to soften the light. It would be a delightful date spot if it didn't feel like a doctor's office. Major flop.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: *****
My husband and I both agree: the customer service is excellent. We spoke to two staff members and both were helpful, friendly, communicative, and polite. Everyone looked like they were working hard.
They were able to answer questions we had about the menu and make friendly, appropriate conversation with customers. I can tell they were trained very well. Great job!
Overall, our night wasn't ruined, but the meal was lacking. I might go through the drive thru just to get a BBQ pork sandwich, but I'd skip the sides.
Great food.
Love their smoked 1/2 chicken plate and the addition of sweet potato tots to the menu. We buy the pulled pork from there but in my opinion it is either smoked too long or held too long because the meat is too chewy. It needs to be more moist by natural cooking methods, not by the addition of barbeque sauce.
