We were passing through Savannah, GA and looked up a good place to eat on TikTok and found Sloppee Toppee and what a nice surprise! Wow! At first glance, you may pass right by this place…BUT DON’T! The food is GOODT! The service was great and the portions were enough for two. The owner/chef is extremely personable, talented, and it’s obvious he takes great pride in his craft. The smothered turkey leg was one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten! The flavors are AMAZING!!! My husband and I were very surprised the community was lined up at this restaurant! Why go to Applebees or Lone Star when you have good, local food like this?!

Really great experience! We’ll absolutely be back!

We spent a few days in Savannah (one of our favorite places) and had several meals at well known and highly rated restaurants. We came across Sloppee Toppee by pure chance. There is nothing special about the building or location, just a place that serves food. After we sat down, met the bar tender and the chef, we knew we were in the right place. They served us a nice drink and an ice cold beer followed by the recommendation of the "Turkey Leg with all of the Fixins". We ordered that and the chicken wings. Both dishes were the best thing that we had eaten during our entire stay in Savannah. They care about what they are serving and you will be sorry if you don't stop by. Yummy!

This is such a hidden gem but don't let its modest exterior fool you... the inside of this restaurant is as unique and impressive as the culinary creations Chef David serves. We were only in Savannah for 2 days and referred to Sloppee Toppee by Old Savannah Tours, and grateful that they led us to this find. We had the Cajun meatballs over pasta and topped with a garlic butter cream sauce, Sloppee Toppee Fried Onion Cheeseburger, and the All the Fixing Turkey Leg. Everything was absolutely delicious and servings were, well, let's just say, wear those elastic waistband pants! The All the Fixing Turkey Leg was like nothing I've ever had... mashed potatoes, 5 hour smoked turkey leg (that was so moist and tender it literally melts in your mouth), mac n cheese, collard greens, and candied yams all topped with a sriracha remoulade sauce. The owner and chef came out to speak with everyone and we had the immense pleasure of learning more about his creations and his passion for creating unique flavors, that he adequately describes as art. I have just found my favorite spot in Savannah and will be back again and again!

    Good & Bad (little long):

*can’t tag on my foodie groups because they haven’t set up a fb page. Don’t see them on IG.
They just mention on their Liquid Cafe page here & there & get attention from tiktok users mentioning them.
    *They are on Google maps
*They have a small “open” sign that cannot be seen from the street. Even when right in front of it, it doesn’t look open. No lighted sign, no indication they are open other than the small paper? sign. It’s just dark and this was at like 4pm.

*They “didn’t go to the store” (or I guess do inventory) it not only was apparent by the “we don’t have that” a few times, but the server & chef mentioned it.

*The menu is outdated or being updated? with No notification.

I ordered the Tuscan chicken rigatoni with Cajun sauce & Sloppee sauce… everything was made except chef wouldn’t give me the rigatoni noodles because they are “discontinuing that dish” and making it a shrimp & chicken with fettuccine noodles.
At first I was told it was because they had no rigatoni noodles, but my friends dish had rigatoni noodles in hers. Then chef came out & explained it’s because that’s not how he’s serving it anymore, and basically you just eat it the way he makes it. (He was very friendly though… just that part isn’t the best, seeing as how it’s still on the menu and if it’s what the customer ordered & wants, it should’ve been obliged, seeing as how it’s STILL ON THE MENU) otherwise, he was very pleasant!

*had to ask chef for silverware. There was only 6 customers at the time, so not busy, but we were overlooked quite a bit as far as meeting server needs… I realized in conversation it’s probably because the beautiful lady serving us is a bar tender not a waitress.
Anyway, I got regular silverware, I realized a bit later a guy next to us got plastic. Not sure what that was about.

*They are short staffed, so if you do go- be KIND & definitely have patience to whoever is serving you. There was only 1 (bartender/server) when we came in and she’s not even used to that location. She tends bar at liquid cafe. She was great with conversation and knows so much that honestly could really help that location. They should really appreciate they have her on their staff.

Another female came in shortly after, but by evening I think she was then going to be the only one tending/serving.
Be patient, be kind, tip well!! They are doing more than what they should and deserve appreciation rather than nasty attitudes.

*first dish: Turkey leg w/all the fixings (definitely meant for 2 ppl) huge leg, layers of collard greens, rigatoni noodles, mashed potatoes, yams, mac n cheese & topped w/sloppee sauce

*second dish: (still a big bowl, I had plenty to take home)
Tuscan chicken w/fettuccine noodles, creamy buttery Cajun sauce + sloppee sauce
A good Cajun hit! not overpowering spice - the right blended amount

    *APP: buttery lemon pepper wings
These were so yummy (forgot to grab a pic 😬)

Definitely one of the best hidden gems in Savannah! Food is unique and unlike anything I have tasted before. Friendly staff that goes above and beyond for their customers. The chef went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. If you haven’t tried this place, put it on your list of places to stop and grab a bite!!!
