Wonderful meal and no wait when every where else in town was about an hour wait. It's also a great family style dinner with endless plates of each item brought to the table to share. Fried chicken, roast, ham with plenty of veggies. Strawberry shortcake was also very tasty. I'm sure no matter the menu, the food and service will be great.
Its been a part of my life as long as I can remember. You sit down family style with whoever comes in to fill your table. Then, your waitress comes for drink orders and here it comes! Fried chicken, ham, pot roast, biscuits, greens, cornbread.... all your down home favorites. If you eat all of something, it is replaced with more immediately. Sitting around the table passing dishes around with your new friends... it's quite a wonderful experience.
The food was delicious. Family style, where you sit down and they bring bowls of food out for everyone to share. You can eat as much as you want, but you can't take any home. Even if you don't order anymore. Which I think is very wasteful. But....you get okra, cream corn, collards, ham, cornbread, rolls, mac-cheese, fried chicken, sweet tea, strawberry shortcake. Very good...but $20 per person. I personally can't eat $20 worth of food (gastric surgery). So although it was great...we will not be back because of the price and not being able to take the leftovers home to eat later.
My first time at the Smith House and it did not disappoint. Wonderful family who owns the establishment and the food is excellent. My family attended for a rehearsal dinner and the private room was clean, odor free, and well kept. The gold mine is extremely interesting and it is awesome that it has been preserved and turned into an attraction. I would absolutely come back again.
Way better than the Dillard's house. Real potatoes, bowl after bowl of delicious goodness. I could keep eating until I would explode. Also, they have a hotel, so you can waddle back to your room to take a nap, or you could walk to town which is a two minute walk. Great time!
