The Chatter Box of Long Grove

The atmosphere is great and the servers are very nice! Drinks are good and the drink specials are better.

The food tho, isn't worth the price. I mean even $2 taco Tuesday... I grabbed the fried avocado taco and there was ONE slice of avocado... and the taco was barely the size of my palm. Just not stellar.

But if you're just going somewhere for the booze and a good atmosphere, I would definitely recommend!

It's the quintessential village bar and restaurant. The off-"Main Street"entrance gives it a bit of a discreet, prohibition-era flair. As you turn in from Old McHenry Road, you'll see the Chatter Box on the right - a pretty cute facade (this is no back alley speakeasy)! I've been there for lunch and dinner and both times the vibe was pretty laid back and casual. The staff seemed like locals and they were all warm, attentive and gracious. The menu had variety and the food (taste, temperature and presentation) was excellent. Proud to have this institution as a part of downtown Long Grove!

came in a group of 4 and ordered different menu items to share. While drinks and appetizers were good, the prime rib was cold and blunt. We asked why it was cold and was told this was cooked in advance and was placed under the heat lamp, basically this wasn't fresh, at least up to our expectations. The staff member who was handling our order felt annoyed and we felt not welcome, that is despite the place at half occupancy. Probably will not come back.

Had a lovely time last night on my own. It's hard to be lonely at Chatterbox. Great place, people and food.
