Short's Burger & Shine

You cannot beat fresh locally sourced beef. Food is excellent, service is always on point. Neat atmosphere. An Iowa City icon.

Whenever someone asks me for a good place to eat, Short's is always one I recommend. Great food, great service, great drinks. While it is a little cramped, there are still booths that can fit six to eight people if needed.

The burgers are amazing. Went with a small group for the first time and we all had something a bit different, but not a single bite was left to eat. Only docking a star for the Old Fashioned I ordered wasn't made properly (No muddled cherries or orange slices in the bottom of the glass, and I don't know if they added the simple sugars.)
But if you go for the burgers, you are definitely at the right place!

This place is LEGIT.
The grub was delicious, the burgers were cooked to perfection. The menu is decidedly not a healthy one but a delicious one. The beer offerings are good and the drafts are cold.

I don't know how we have visited Iowa City and walked past this place so many times and not stopped in! It is the perfect choice for us. Casual atmosphere, excellent service and the best burgers. The choices are endless. We will definitely make this one of our stops again! I read an article that this was the best burger in Iowa, and after eating one I have to agree! I was traveling through on a rainy Wednesday and made it a point to have dinner here. It was NOT busy, and I was treated nicely. The burger was really good, and what made it even better was that the fries were super too! They have a nice selection of beer on tap, and it tastes good cold paired with the hot burger-n-fries!
