Ceviche Bar

We had a long wait at the Iowa Tap Room and "Ceviche" caught our eye across the street. I tried ceviche for the first time on a mission trip to Peru and really liked it, so have had it numerous times since here in the USA, mostly at Mexican restaurants.

I absolutely loved the place when we walked in...very lively and unique atmosphere. They had a free Bloody Mary with any Plate special, so we took advantage of it, and were so glad that we did. The Bloody Mary was probably the best I've ever had. I don't like really heavy tomato juice/ flavor (you could see through this one) and this was balanced perfectly to my taste. We ordered 'spicy' and both the flavor and spice level were perfect - I highly recommend it.

The Arroz Con Picadillo was average relative to other paella we've had and the ceviche was on the other end of the spectrum. Other ceviche I've had used firm white fish and was very light and tangy, with strong flavors of lime juice and cilantro which I really like. This ceviche used salmon which was very mushy (maybe that is the norm with salmon, but I didn't like it at all), included olive oil (came across very 'heavy') and had flavors I didn't care for at all. I couldn't detect any cilantro or lime, other than a 'faky' lime flavor we described as what you might expect from a Real Lime squeeze bottle. Needless to say...I didn't like their ceviche at all and would not recommend it.

It's an awesome place, they sanitize the tables after every and each customer, the music is good and they give me a beer every time I ask for one. They also have a flamingo chilling in there next to the doors over the kitchen, it's mind blowing

The food was good and the portions were larger than expected. They make the best bloody mary that I have ever tasted. The staff was friendly and efficient.
