Take your time and enjoy the experience. Start with the Caesar salad that is prepared table side. The English Grill is a favorite for our family especially around the holidays. The servers always have fantastic stories about the food or the hotel. If you don't know what to order just ask for the Hot Brown.
In the Brown Hotel, English Grill was closed, but the restaurant was open. We had a hot brown. It was my first time trying it, but it is excellent. They also had a brown Manhattan. Historic hotel and restaurant. Valet parking is free if you eat at the restaurant.
Let me tell you. This place was great. I booked a night at the hotel for my friend and I and made a reservation at the English Grill for dinner. We both had the hot brown and it was delicious. The chef also brought us new food from the menu for us to try. I had no idea what I ate but it was amazing. The English grill went the extra mile and surprised us with an Ice Cream Sunday for our anniversary. Take a piece of advice from this random stranger. Buy a couple of drinks, go to the English Grill and have a great night.
What a great experience at the English Grill. You can eat dinner at plenty of "old school" Louisville restaurants, but what makes an experience is the staff. Kelly A. our waiter was excellent. Very attentive and easy to talk with. He knew exactly when to come and chat and when to give us some time to eat and enjoy the ambiance. He knew the history of the hotel and had several interesting stories. Arnold, for lack of a better term, "table attendant" was excellent. He has been at the restaurant for over 25 years. I appreciated his dedication and his pleasant service.
We had the lobster bisque which was excellent, the catch of the day which was sea bass (cooked perfectly) with risotto and I added the lobster tail. We had shrimp & grits as an app and it was excellent. My wife had the filet with asparagus and she really enjoyed it. I highly recommend the restaurant. Thank you Kelly, thank you Arnold. Thank you chef. I hope everyone has the opportunity to have such a nice experience.
It has been a few years since we had dinner at the English Grill, and shame on us for not coming here to celebrate special occasions. Upon entrance into the Grill, the table captain greeted us as if he knew us. He then guided us to the table where we would have dinner. Started off by having some excellent wine and a Caesar salad prepared in front of us. Excellent preparation of the salad with an explanation of the ingredients that were in the salad.
