Great restaurant on Magazine street. Location is excellent and is a hour converted to a restaurant. We sat on the porch and shared a few small plates and beers.
Ordered every vegetable dish on menu (salads and sides) and a cheese plate to share. We liked most of it, especially the large selection of interesting pickles. The crumbling mansion atmosphere was very cool, and the service was attentive. I ordered a daiquiri I didn't like (very tart), but I'm not much of a drinker. I dislike most cocktails, not sure why I keep ordering them. All in all a great experience.
This place was recommended from an art gallery down the road on General Taylor street seeking to save the elephants. They specifically described our would be server and said, "she truly makes the experience fun." And then we met Christiana, drank a sazerac, had some tartare and were on our way. The only issue for us was we came too early and the kitchen wasn't fully open so we could only eat what the kitchen had prepped, regardless we were happy to be allowed to eat early. Finally, other members of the staff came out and shared their stories, recommendations and suggestions for our travels. Don't remember his name but I remember his passion for the cultural history of his city. And with that a promise to share the same passion for my city, if the Cavan staff happened to be in Arizona.
Very cool place! Good location, nice outdoor patio area - had a jazz ensemble out there they day we dined. Food was GREAT! Chicken cooked perfectly and could not consumed an endless bowl of the brussel sprouts. Good drink selection - had Citadel gin! Friendly service, good appetizers - highly recommend!
5 star food and service in a vintage, beautiful, haunted mansion. Their brunch is truly delicious - I would suggest the patty melt or the shrimp and grits.
Cavan is also a great venue for a party. Their bartenders are excellent, and their cocktail recipes are thoughtfully put together.
All around, one of my favorite restaurants in the garden district. Not to be passed over during a visit to the city.
