This is a great place. Lots of history. Many beers to choose from. I sat at the bar late in the evening, but didn't order food. It is a truly beautiful, historic, and memorable experience. It was really bright inside, even after 10pm. The lights could maybe be turned down a notch.
Good perch! Great atmosphere and service! Definitely stop by, you won't be disappointed.
This was our second time to Sleder's Family Tavern. We went back because my spouse and I enjoyed the first time. We enjoy the atmosphere and my spouse really likes the menu. I, personally, do not love the menu now that I have been there twice. For me, I do try to keep my eating on the healthy side of any menu, not eliminating or telling myself that anything is completely out of bounds, but just trying to find the healthiest options. The salad options were not amazing- basically average or, nowadays, below average. The lettuce is obviously romaine at the best, iceburg at the worst. Most (5 out of 6 probably) come with a meat option which is either a red meat or a fried meat/shrimp. SIDE NOTE: I cannot believe they do not have a salad option that has cherries. I mean COME ON, you are int Traverse City and you can't throw some fresh or dried cherries on a salad with candied nuts and some soft cheese? I know that inventory matters, but sheesh! Back to my review: You cannot get the shrimp grilled, which means they are breaded and not fresh or even froze without breading. I did order the appetizer, buffalo shrimp, and the house salad, mixed them together and enjoyed that dinner. The kids tried the grilled cheese and chicken fingers. My spouse had something he loved, I don't recall what it was. Otherwise, the service as very nice and we still like the atmosphere. Nice family restaurant.
This is a unique place in Michigan's history. I had the smelt dinner and my husband had the perch. They were both delicious! Our server was very friendly, but it took a while to get waited on. We also got peanuts to go. You can also "kiss the moose". Fun place.
My first visit was totally pleasant. Even though very busy, the hostess and servers gave great service. The food was excellent and fresh. Their bean soup is outstanding. Lots of conversation at tables of families and couples out for dinner, and everyone seemed friendly and congenial. A very historic restaurant worth visiting.
