Wonderful place. I grew up here, literally! My grandparents owned this back when it was called the Tawas Rec. Complete with 4 bowling lanes and pre-automatic pin setters. 8 cents a game setting pins during the week, 10 cents on weekends!
Great food and service. There were 8 in our group, our waiter was fantastic with getting everyone's orders right. Our Food was hot and very tasty.
Barnacles is one of the best places in Tawas with some of the worst service. Love to come here, decent prices, decent atmosphere. But the bartenders just talk to each other and wander back and forth “looking” busy. No one acknowledges you when you come to the bar. After you wait for a few minutes, someone moseys up to you and asks if you’ve been helped. In no way do I ever feel like a priority as a patron here. All the bartenders seem miserable and unpersonable. They could not care less if you need anything.
Also, the DJ is terrible. ????
Clam strips were great, lobster mac and cheese was good, and the cuban sandwich was good. However, we ordered a rib eye steak and it was still cold to the touch and completely rare in the inside. Sent it back and got the tuna bites, which were good. The person who ordered the steak is gluten free and had trouble finding anything safe to eat. Service was slow but we attributed it to a large party being held.
Fairly good bar grub. We sat outside on the street that was great for people watching, had a nice day with a cool breeze , very enjoyable. Party of 6 and everyone enjoyed what they had. Recommend this stop if you got the time
