Comfy, clean, easiesy check in I've ever had, friendly and hospitable host. Cannot wait to visit again.
This place is every bit a slice of Americana as you expect from a little roadside motel like this. But with very little effort could be a million times better. No AC but also no ceiling fans and the smell of smoke outside is a bit too much to leave the windows open. The rooms are huge and they at least have clean, white sheets on the beds. A little effort in the layout/upgrade department could make it a great value. Our TV didn’t turn on but til we realized it was well past most peoples bedtime. Not much of a drive to all the major things in town but out enough to be quiet and secluded. Clean enough but just clearly has not been updated in 20 years.
We wanted to do the classic diner breakfast but honestly the prices were not classic diner breakfast prices.
Shirley and Paul made sure I had everything I needed. It's a quaint old fashioned place that has everything you need and nothing you don't. The rooms were clean and conveniently located near the Sleeping Bear Dunes park, where I happily went kayaking and fishing. Would love to visit again. The diner was awesome, and highly recommend the omelettes!
This is a review of the Cafe - not the Motel. Stopped there for breakfast; got the biscuits and gravy as well as the smaller "traditional" breakfast plate. 5 stars for service. 1 star for the value/quality of food. The biscuits tasted like they were microwaved and the gravy was really lacking - tasted like possibly canned gravy with almost no sausage or pepper taste. Gelatinous in texture and flavor. The hasbrowns were good, but greasy. Nice and crispy. Bacon was precooked and just warmed up - flavor was fine. The sausage patty was very unattractive and looked like some weird heated up miniature hocky puck; it tasted fine though. Eggs were supposed to be over easy, but there was a good part of whites uncooked. Sourdough toast was amazing. Coffee and breakfast for two was about $30. I can't say we'll never be back as there's not a ton of options in the area, but I'll be a bit more selective in what I order next time. (probably just eggs, toast, and hashbrowns).
