I haven’t eaten there yet, instead closed down the place for an evening.
The bartender was great, no nonsense, as was the place, and inexpensive too compared to most joints in town
One of the oldest buildings in town, it’s beautiful, though it needs some work, but so do I. I’d love to see some more TLC put into it. Regardless, it’s what I’d deem it to be this town’s dive bar and I love it!
Often overlooked, the Birch Terrace Supper Club and bar offers excellent food at reasonable prices. The service is excellent. The beef brisket sandwich as well as the Reuben, and patty melt were all crowd pleasers, as was the Walleye dinner. We all liked the baked potato, which was done just right. The 100+ year old building was warm and welcoming, and had a great atmosphere . If you are a party of two, ask for a spot in the glassed-in porch for a great view of Grand Marais harbor.
When we first go there it was hard to find the dining area. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The food didn’t take to long to come out. The spaghetti was decent but the noodles were undercooked. The place was just decent for the price.
We went while it was pretty slow. The patio was dog friendly which we love. We both had the Brisket Sandwich and it was preppy plain (just meat and bread) and didn’t look that great, but looks were deceiving. It was super good. Fries were fine, tasted like maybe the fry oil needed to be changed. Service was great, the kid made sure the dogs had water and took good care of us. I think he may have been new to serving, but gave great service. Went inside to use bathroom before we left and the place is very interesting looking.
They do barbecue and steaks really well, but the other food we got was a bit underwhelming. We got there just before the supper rush, which was nice because things definitely got a bit slow with the staff shortage. Our waiter was pleasant enough for our table, but we every once in a while heard him talking to the other patrons and he sounded a bit gruff.
