“What can you get for $5 nowadays? How about a herring fish sandwich? They catch their own herring, make their own tartar sauce, and the whole staff is just pleasant and funny and upbeat.”

My Sister's Place

Address: 401 MN-61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Restaurant

“For my review of My Sister’s Place I’m including a picture of an empty plate. That’s right, an empty dirty plate. Why would I do such a thing when so many other reviews have pictures of their meals before a bite was even taken, before the chef’s handiwork was distributed? Why you might ask. Why? Well, the answer is simple really. It’s because the food was so great (Granny burger if you must know) that I was too busy enjoying my meal to even consider disgracing it by taking my full attention away from it for even just one second. I fancy myself a bit of a burger aficionado. I’ve sampled burgers in the fanciest of restaurants in the biggest of cities to the most far flung hole in the wall greasy spoons in the middle of BFE. And through my adventures Ive had bad burgers, good burgers, and great burgers. Now I won’t say this is the greatest burger Ive ever had, but it is up there no doubt, easily in the top ten. The apple with the bacon was AMAZING! My taste buds were singing the songs of angles. The fries were cooked in the finest of oils with no hints of fish (quite common in the upper Midwest, especially during Lent), at a perfect temperature. And the beer was served cold and did its job quite well at washing everything down. Not only was the food amazing but our server was fantastic too. 10/10 would recommend My Sister’s Place and I will definitely eat here again next time I find myself in Grand Marais.”

Taste of India Food Truck

Address: 8 MN-61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Restaurant

“I missed this food truck on my earlier trip to the North Shore at the beginning of summer but this time, thank god, I made a point to stop. I love hot and spicy so I ordered the chicken vindaloo and asked for it extra extra spicy. It did not disappoint! They even gave me an extra side of some amazing hot sauce - I need to figure out what chilies they used so I can try to make it at home. The chicken vindaloo was simple, but perfect. You can tell that the flavors took time and love to develop. Huge chunks of moist chicken and potatoes swimming in the most flavorful sauce you can imagine. I have had chicken vindaloo at any places in big cities, and this one was by far the best ever. And the fact that it’s up in Grand Marais makes it an extraordinary find! I also got a side order of naan that you could tell was homemade - absolutely perfect for sopping up the extra sauce. My plan was to save half of this to bring it home with me but I couldn’t resist ate the entire thing so I definitely will be back next time I am up at the North Shore. The next morning before heading out of town, I stopped by when I saw them prepping for the day and told them how much I loved the food and then I would definitely be back. Taste of India - THANK YOU for bringing some absolutely extraordinary and authentic Indian food to one of my favorite places on earth!”

Hungry Hippie Tacos

“This was a pretty busy place to eat at 1800 on 6/17/23. It was worth the wait!!! I ordered a chicken bacon ranch and a spicy beef taco, both all the way. I also ordered the Nashville hot curds. Everything I ordered was eaten and it was delicious! For us it was the perfect spice and flavor and we were completely satisfied. We will happily come here again.”

South of the Border Cafe

Cafe Restaurant

“Great diner. Extremely friend staff with warm kind service. Food was absolutely incredible. I had the fish (Herring) , eggs, fried potatoes, and toast (pancake). Some of the best fried fish I've ever had and I've had a lot being from Louisiana. First place I visited after we moved were and I can say, we definitely felt welcome. For sure a must if you're looking for peak diner food with one of a kind small town hospitality.”

Cook County Co-op

“We went in for a ginger cookie but left with oatmeal because the ginger was out. I guess 5:00 pm is too late for most of their prepared stuff? It’s ok. The cookie was delicious.”

Voyageur Brewing Company

Address: 233 W Hwy 61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Restaurant

“A bit more like a restaurant that your usual brewery taproom, but good nonetheless! Downstairs has table service, upstairs/roof is for those who order beer at the bar and go up top if I remember correctly. Loads of merch available, much more than any other brewery I've been to. The beer and cheese curds were good, as well as the service. Lots of outdoor seating when weather allows. Nice place.”

Birch Terrace Supper Club

Address: 601 MN-61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Restaurant Night club

“Often overlooked, the Birch Terrace Supper Club and bar offers excellent food at reasonable prices. The service is excellent. The beef brisket sandwich as well as the Reuben, and patty melt were all crowd pleasers, as was the Walleye dinner. We all liked the baked potato, which was done just right. The 100+ year old building was warm and welcoming, and had a great atmosphere . If you are a party of two, ask for a spot in the glassed-in porch for a great view of Grand Marais harbor.”

SHOOK | ADVENTURE FUEL

“Ordered the Brazilian Moose Bowl and added Agave Honey - delicious! Great customer service, good location, just wish they were open later into the day! Twice now in the last week I would have headed over to pick up a smoothie or a bowl, but per their operating hours, they were already closed. Definitely though, I’ll return!”

Cafe Restaurant

“Went here twice during my stay, had a great experience both times. Had the Nordic miel and a raspberry white chocolate scone, and a maple latte the second time. Coffee is very nice. There are a few places to sit indoors and lots of outdoor seating. It can be very busy, but they serve you very quickly and efficiently despite the crowd.”

Gun Flint Tavern

Address: 111 Wisconsin St, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Restaurant

“I got an old fashioned and fajitas with smoked chicken. It was all tasty. I got their standard old fashioned. They offer middle or top shelf upgrade options for an additional $2/$4. Their basic old fashioned is good. The fajitas and their presentation were excellent. The portion is generous (4 large tortillas worth). The sliced peppers (red and yellow) were delicious in the mix. It comes with shredded cheese, sour cream and salsa. It would be better if they doubled the portion of salsa - and perhaps offer a medium hot option. The spice level is very mild as it is. The vibe of the Tavern is welcoming. It offers great views of the iconic harbor and Lake Superior out the large from windows. It’s a great place to meet up with friends or family. Free parking available on the street. I appreciate that they have nice tunes playing in the background and no TVs to distract from conversation.”

The Fisherman's Daughter at Dockside Fish Market

Address: 418 MN-61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“We were fortunate to find a table inside The Fisherman's Daughter to enjoy a late weekday lunch. The fish & chips (with white fish) were tasty. My husband had the white fish but substituted the cheese curds for $4 more and really enjoyed them. My chicken fingers & chips were okay, the chicken being a little over-cooked to my liking. A friend enjoyed her white fish tacos. The restaurant was quaint and clean, with gifts available for purchase. Would eat here again the next time I'm in the area.”

Blue Water Cafe

Address: 20 West Wisconsin St, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Cafe Bakery Restaurant

“We all had a really good lunch at the blue water cafe. There’s something for everyone on the menu. They offer the breakfast menu all day and there are specials. Not a very big restaurant, but there never seemed to be much of a wait for a table. The walleye basket was really good.”

Angry Trout Cafe

Address: 408 W Hwy 61, Grand Marais, MN 55604, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“Nice view, but pricey. They do factor in a 20% service charge (AKA tip), so be aware of that. Plating of food was awesome. Plates looked beautiful. I ordered the grilled chicken dinner (Chicken and sauce get five stars, it was delicious! Wild rice side was dry/bland, wish it was seasoned or sauced more. Asparagus was perfect as far as asparagus goes. Salad looked beautiful, but the dressing choices weren’t good. I didn’t care for any of the four they leave out on the table.”
