Hy-Vee Market Grille

I never expected to find a bar/restaurant inside of a hy-vee, this being my first time here I found it a nice place to stop.

We tried to sit in a booth at the bar, but we were told we needed to be seated by the hostess, so we went to ask the hostess if we could sit in that particular booth, she then walked off a bit confused. She did not return to seat us, so we were left standing there trying to figure out when she planned on returning to seat us. As we stood waiting, we were soon greeted by another employee whom immediately seated us in the booth we asked about, she was extremely helpful and pleasant to talk to.

Our server immediately assisted us with drinks and questions regarding the menu. They had a great selection of beer, I found a peanut butter porter that I thoroughly enjoyed. We apparently missed the happy hour specials and from what I understand they have some impressive happy hour specials.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with tater tots, I failed to ask up front, but assumed they would be serving homemade tater tots. The burger was prepared just as I ordered, but I was disappointed to find the tater tots were basically the equivalent of what you would pick up in the frozen food section.

Dinner was good, the price point was spot on and the environment was quite comfortable.

The food was good and our server was nice but we did have other servers checking on us multiple times as well as our regular server which was a little annoying. If we Alsohad only been checked on by our server it would have been fine but having three additional people check on us every 5-8 minutes...not ideal. As we were leaving we witnessed the wait staff having a dispute over sections which should probably have been discussed in a less public area.

Took part in the menu special of all you can eat crab legs!! Comes with a salad, potato and a roll - (However our waitress never brought our rolls ????????... a bit bummed over that as I know they are absolutely delicious)
The salad was lacking in veggies as mine had only a sliver of slice of one grape tomato, and 3 slices of cucumber. You can see it in the photo below. Other than that the crab was very nummy.
We did have to continually ask for a clean shell plate, which should have been obvious to take care of as it was over flowing with shells.
We also had to ask for wet naps at the end of the meal. This also should have been obvious as we are eatting crab with our hands.
We were never asked if our drinks should be refilled, I was quite parched by the time we finished, I did leave the restaurant thirsty. She missed the opportunity to upsell us on dessert also ..... so we bought dessert elsewhere which is really too bad for the restaurant.
I'd have to overall say the crab was good.
The service was really off.

Good selection and very friendly staff. Prices seem reasonable for what I have seen in this area. I had a good breakfast here.
