I was excited to be in St. Louis and to have an opportunity to try Sweetie Pies. We tried fried chicken, baked turkey wing, dressing, macaroni and cheese , blacked eyed peas and corn bread. The prices were higher than expected but I guess it was to be expected for an infamous restaurant. I was disappointed with the long lines, lack of staff and bickering amongst staff. The staff were very nice and patiently waited on the customers. Although the lines were long the dining area was barely used. A lot of people stood in line for take out. The setup is a buffet line and the staff serves. Not enough staff meant one person at more than one station. Back to the food I tasted. The black eyed peas were sweet, the dressing lacked sage and the macaroni barely had cheese. The turkey wing was cold , over cooked and dry. I think it's a great family atmosphere/ attraction with all of the memorabilia. I also think if they had some tastings with customers to get the flavors right and have a dedicated area for to go options they will really thrive.
A staple when in St. Louis. No trip to the Gateway City is complete without a stop in Sweetie Pie’s. This trip was a first for my mother and sister who extremely enjoyed the food. The food was served cafeteria style, after a long wait in line. Therefore, you must order everything you need, including togo orders, right then otherwise you would need to wait in line again to order. The food was great, a little overpriced, but great soul food. No catfish on my visit but Sweetie Pies made up for it with it other great food items.
The food was pretty good. I had fried chicken wings, mac & cheese, cabbage, cornbread and peach cobbler. I liked their cabbage and peach cobbler the best.
Had some good soul down home cooking. Sweetie Pies portions can't be beat. Baked chicken was very moist. I had the white meat. Mac n cheese and green beans cooked to perfection. I would thought I was in the south. When in St.Louis you must stop and dine.
