The Oar House

On Monday night we reserved a table for 8 adults and 5 children (ranging in age from 3-8). Our waiter gave exceptional service, bringing the kids' meals first, as requested. We all loved our meals! Our table was set beautifully and everything was ready for our reservation. We were allowed to linger, and had a wonderful time.

The server was nice and the drinks were great but the food was okay at best. I don't know if it was an off night but it was a bit disappointing.

The atmosphere was lovely, at least until we got there. My two year old really enjoyed the acoustics of the place. The food was more expensive than I would have liked to pay for the sandwiches we got. I had to wait twice as long for my food because our waiter forgot to put my order in. Other than that, the place was lovely and clean and everyone was very nice.

Great place to eat downtown on the Portsmouth waterfront.Disclaimer - my sister Barb and her husband Ray own the restaurant. Still an great place to eat either on the dock seating outside or inside within the great decor.

I've been to Portsmouth more times than I can count and I just went here for the first time. I will want to be back. Had a salad with breaded chicken and Mac and cheese. Such a good combination. Their rolls were really good and hot when served. I did see their pizza and I hope I can try one soon, looked like a very manageable portion that you could pair with an appetizer and be set. Will be back!
