Read the mostly positive reviews online so decided to check out this Paulus Hook gem. The atmosphere stands out... High ceilings, nice dark interiors, long bar, great for a date night. Food was decent, and the 3-course dinner option is a great value. But the service needs attention... After we were seated, no one came to check on us after the busboy served us water.,. Waited for 10 minutes, and then went up to the bar myself to get a glass of wine. Another 10 minutes go by.... And finally this nice older gentleman came to check on us, and took our order. Turned out he was the manager, and he, along with a cast of other 2-3 different busboys & servers brought out our dishes. After the table was cleared by the manager, waited another 10 minutes before we had to ask for our dessert. And it wasn't even that busy....Pluses were the atmosphere and price/value for the food... And even though the manager's positive attitude and helpfulness made up for the other lack of attentiveness and service, management/ownership should take note.
One of my favorite restaurants in Jersey City. The ambiance is fabulous. The historic building with beautiful bar is warm and inviting. Stop by for a great meal or just a drink.
The main room has at least 12 foot ceilings and probably taller than that. It's got this beautiful old time charm to it. I'd recommend going if for nothing else just to see the space
The food, ambience and swirls make for a nice night. There will be a wait without a reservation but you can hang at the bar and enjoy a swirl while you wait for you table. The service is generally good and food comes out rather quickly.
Exploring NJ for the first time I was ecstatic to find this hidden gem. If the entrance isn't cool enough the drink menu is insane. If possible opt for the drink tasting menu but make sure you eat prior. The drinks, service, music, ambiance...everything is amazing. Not crazy about the 2 hour max you are allowed for your table but definitely a must try. You will not be disappointed.
