“A week ago when Hoboken and Jersey City were hit by the hurricane it was a dismal time. When we could finally get out we were desperate to find a place to have dinner or even a sandwich. We accidentally found Oconnell's who were one of a few places open. They could not serve their full menu but had 8 items on a hand wrriten menu and apologized saying they could only take cash because of the power outages. We found it friendly and people were trying to work with a skeleton crew during tough circumstances. We returned a few days later still with a limited menu and had the pot pie which was amazing. Tonight we are going back again. Love this place and their food is excellent! I see there are two people that complained in their comments during this same time period. It was a devastating storm and you're complaining about a Coke and slow service? Get serious. This place is great!”

“Honestly don’t even know where to begin. The food is always amazing and fresh, and the portions are generous. The ceviche is my favorite - but I’ve yet to try anything I didn’t like. Like other reviewer stated - don’t know why I’d eat anywhere else - and I find myself quite literally not eating anywhere else but here most days. Im so happy to have this gem in JC. “As someone with a background in restaurants and a passion for food, I cannot recommend Next Door enough. Succinctly: the food is well worth it, the owners are kind people, and the space is beautiful and warm. Chef Ruby takes familiar foods/staples and augments them with components from her background/experience to craft dishes that make for delicious, fresh (in both senses of the word) foods. The recipes are not only elevated, but the execution is top notch. Everything is greater than the sum of its parts. I will slowly try everything on the menu :)”

“I noticed this place a couple of days ago when I was leaving work. They are very close to my job, so I decided to check them out today. The guy doing the cooking was so kind. I ordered the mixed platter. It came with chicken, lamb, rice and salad. I asked for extra white sauce and just a tad bit of hot sauce. All for just 11 dollars. It was a very good portion, and it was DELICIOUS. I will say this, that hot sauce is PROPERLY spicy. So if you have no spice tolerance, leave it be. I highly recommend this place. There's even a cute little seating area beside it. Go for it, and enjoy!!”

“Starts with one liner "awesome taste, but some flaws" Offcourse it was a takeout, and as usual I first tried the chicken platter. They have huge menu on gyros food. Will try sometime. But coming back to the chicken platter, it was awesome and best I can say. The salad with mix of lettuce, tomato 🍅, onion 🌰, corn 🌽, chickpea, black olive 🫒, Cucumber 🥒 and then flavored rice with properly cooked topped with seasoned cooked chicken. The white sauce and hot sauce were just amazing. Had a stone or some object like thing. Got the chicken wings, that one was very disappointing, excessively salty made its taste worst. Recommended, I know they are good but simple adjustments needed.”

The decor was beaten up and out table was shaky which might be a minor issue but it kept rocking every time I went for a bite !! Though the foods runner wore gloves it seems to have been on for a long time. Silverware are plates had water spots. Hope these things will be taken care soon . “I like this bakery very much. Service is excellent and quick. What I went for: turkey sandwich with cheese, fruit tart, and doctors orders (pineapple, carrot, apple, lemon, and ginger juice). The sandwich was pretty good, especially for the price (5.5$). The drink, however, was kinda strange. If you like ginger juice, and you don't mind exploring, then this could be for you. However, I'm not a big fan of Ginger juice, so I won't be ordering this again. The best thing was the dessert: the food tart. Absolutely delicious, the crust was not dry at all, and the fruit was fresh. Not too sweet either. Would definitely order again.”

During Covid though I don’t think there’s dine in.. seemed like just the workers and customers grabbing take out. Drinks are SHHHHHTRONNNNGGGG!!! Like you definitely will be feeling nice after a 32oz drink, if you wanna be lit just drink two of them and you’re good to go!! I have tried at least 6 different drinks and they have all been good, just look at the ingredients and see if you like what it’s mixed with and you should be good to go!”
