Max's Restaurant Jersey City

This spot is worth trying. They serve big portions for reasonable prices. Constantly well organized and with excellent character. Will come back again.

We came to this place for a meeting. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was a winning. we were warmly welcomed by the crew and we felt good. The meal was fresh and delicious. We had a great time and we will definitely return to this restaurant. we highly recommend this place.

Met expectations. Watched a video on this one time and finally got to try it. Fried chicken was good and crispy. Need to eat it with sauce though. The banana ketchup went well with it. The pork coconut dish was good as well but a bit heavy. Garlic rice was very delicious! The tamarind soup we got was very sour, tasted very homemade but the choice of fish we got was very dry (milkfish) so probably better with another fish. Want to come back to try the family meal for 10!

In the Philippines, everyone has an opinion of Max's of Manila. The restaurant has been around in some form or another since 1945, touting the history of Maximo Gimenez and his relationship with US occupying forces during the second world war, a group of which convinced him to open up his first shop. Now that a second and third generation have taken over the operation, second and third generations of families are coming to enjoy the fried chicken and everything else.

The Jersey City branch opened almost ten years ago in the epicenter of the Filipino community. There is little fanfare for the place outside of this group, but walk in on any day or evening and you will see it is a hugely popular spot for groups of friends and family. As it is in Metro Manila, Cebu, or any one of its over 100 locations in the Philippines, Max's is a destination for happy times.

I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try authentic Filipino cuisine. This place is fantastic. Very clean and friendly staff. We’ll definitely be coming here again. The two and a half hour drive is well worth it.
