Delicious food, lovely ambience, but barely passable service.
We enjoyed everything we ate, especially the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast.
The assorted homemade breads were fine, but nothing special at all, so for $3 each felt a bit cheap. Given how much our meal was, I'd expect bread to be included. And the butter was basically frozen.
Cocktails were also fine. I was excited that all the ingredients were local, including the alcohols, but my drink was a bit unbalanced.
The service was the weakest point. They didn't serve us water until after asking three times. They also insisted we order everything at once, even though we were still undecided on entrees but hungry and wanted to get the appetizers going. They made it seem like they'd orchestra some special order to the food, but all the apps came out together, and then all the mains, so not clear why they needed the full order to start the appetizers.
Lovely place, great outdoor seating. Everyone who works there is as nice as can be. Food was really great. Orzo Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Entrees exceptional. And dessert devine.
For the most part the food was very good. Our asparagus salad was an unusual combination of flavors that didn't work for us, but the ingredients were great. My duck entree was outstanding. The baramundi special was a bit too fishy. The chicken dish arrived mixed with chicken sausage which was not described on the menu or by the waiter. My wife doesn't like sausage of any kind, and was disappointed. We didn't want to wait for a new entree, so she just ate a part of her meal. Our waiter was apologetic, but the manager made no apologies and no adjustment to our dinner. This could have been handled better by the management.
Jennifer and Brooke were incredibly nice and made a special occasion truly meaningful. The flavors in each dish were exquisite and fresh. If our satisfied palates are any indication, Restaurant Martin finally the merit and recognition from the James Beard Foundation.
Had the yellow tail special of the day, oysters, and pork belly. Waitress was very slow to greet, but the owner stepped in to fill in the gap. She made it feel welcoming and ensured things continued to flow.
The oysters were delicious with complex flavors and all the textures worked well together. The sauce complimented the entire dish.
The pork belly was somewhat bland, but the red sauce was great and complemented the pork.
Will definitely return to try other menu items.
