My husband and I ate there a few days ago. We ordered the Wagyu Brisket Au Jus (meat was delicious) but the Au Jus was was a little too "hippy" for my husband (LOL!). The fennel seasoning was really overpowering. We also had the Elk Carpaccio which was basically a smear of meat on an 7" plate. I asked for no arugula but they made it without the fried capers or pink peppercorns too for some reason. For $16. If you drew it all up into a pile it would make up one (delicious) medium-sized bite of food. The carrots with yogurt were the best thing I had and probably the only thing I would go back for. I also had the crab fried rice (one of very few gluten-free options) but it was way too spicy with all the jalapeños. Once I picked them all out it was delicious.

Their dog constantly roaming around begging for scraps was annoying but the people were all really nice and our food all came out much quicker than expected.

I really don't like that they only take credit cards and that they have an automatic 20% tip when you have to get up and order at the counter every time you want something (food, drinks, wine, etc.). I understand that tipping is not just for table service but at these prices, I would think they could pay a living wage or work that into the prices. I eat out regularly in NYC (most recently last month) and this is not the norm that I have experienced at similar "trendy" restaurants. Overall, I see what they are trying to do and most of the food had excellent flavors but the ambiance is not four stars (plain wood tables and chairs with club music playing) and the counter ordering is not four stars but the prices sure are.

I did really like the large selection of natural wines to choose from.

We ordered two appetizers and two mains. We each had a glass of wine and then ordered a bottle (took most of it home with us). After tip it came to $215.

A real turn off right off the bat with the mandatory 20% (forced tipping) sign at the bar. The gall. There is no table service. You have to go to the bar to order yourself which is absolutely FINE but don’t charge us a bogus fee forcing us to pay for something you didn’t earn! Apparently tipping is not bc you earned it it’s because the owners want to tack on something extra, undeserved. I will warn my friends.

The food was good and fresh and the flowerless chocolate cake was delicious but there are only 3 gf small plate options. Tiring.

The wine glasses are sample size not a quality experience for the boasted quality wines. The cheap dollar store utensils (literally!) are just one step above plastic. I had to remove the piles of plates on our table. We had a bottle of wine which was dumped on our table again with of course no wine service.

The owner’s dog roaming the cafe and begging at our table was extremely annoying. My husband had to get up and ask the owners to deal with their (service) dog.

The fried rice crab bowl was good but it was way too hot spicy and way too salty. We ordered a second one bc of the limited gf menu and the chef got all bent out of shape with the request to please cut down the salt and heat.
The restroom was kind of ikky. No upgrades there. I’d give it a 2 out 5. Call me old fashioned - i can’t stand going into an all gender restroom and finding the man before me has missed the toilet. Ewe.

We were excited to try it and the positive take away is that at least the food is good. We enjoyed our wine choice.
But the mandatory tipping is simply wrong.

    Run don't Walk!
    What a unforgettable experience.
New Mexican Wagyu Charred Brisket is bangin!
Don't miss out on the Jonah Crab & Sungold Panzanella either.
It's great to have a new restaurant that is serving local ingredients from the farmers market and fantastic natural wine.
You will not find this anywhere else in Taos, maybe even New Mexico!!

The corner office In Taos was a complete culinary surprise! These people know food. having only the option of beer and wine is fine they pair perfectly with the food served. The food is the center point
We shared one of everything and landed up ordering more mortadella and two of the caramel tarts.
Service was great. Don’t let ordering at the counter fool you. Santa Fe to Taos is only an hour. JT
