The dumplings and scallion pancakes are as authentically Shanghai as you can get, and I mean anywhere, Shanghai included. The dough was impossibly and delightfully thin and delicate, and also tasty. The soup inside the dumplings was superb. It wasn't watery or flat. It was rich and not over-salted. The scallion pancakes were fantastic. Honestly, these are the best scallion pancakes I have ever had. Light, crunchy, yet just the right amount of doughy and not a greasy mess. I have never in my life written a review of soup dumplings. But these were heaven on earth. The restaurant is the tiniest hole in the wall. Someday, they will grow. Order to take out if you must. But order. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing and everybody ordering seemed like they were part of a secret club - knowing that every item on the menu here transports you directly to the most authentic food you could possibly find in Shanghai, China. May Shanghai Memories grow and prosper.
Memories of Shanghai is easy to miss; it’s hidden in the back of an alley, but it does have an awning and some banners on the sidewalk. The venue itself is quite small and when it’s busy it’s very crammed. It seems to be a very busy venue; we visited an hour before closing and it was full. We had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to free up. The Beef Noodle Soup was great, I’d recommend it to anyone. It has a very meaty and oily broth; regular spicy isn’t that spicy at all. The chunky pieces of beef are absolutely delicious. The beef is so tender, it just falls apart in your mouth and packed with flavor. It was a bit on the salty side. We also had the Shanghai Steamed Soup Dumplings and Pork w/Chives Dumplings are alright, they weren’t anything special to be honest.
Excellent soup dumplings; menu looked limited, but would definitely go again to try more; tiny place, not much seating; was busy on a Saturday afternoon
This tiny restaurant is tucked in the back of an alley between a parking garage and a police station. The alley provides some decoration and outdoor seating to overflow the 4 tables inside. A decent size menu has everything from pork and pork+crab XLB (soup dumplings) to soups, wontons, fried bites and deserts. The food is fresh and delicious and you can see it being lovingly prepared across the counter. They take credit card and offer free delivery for orders over $10.
Food was very fresh and tasty. Would recommend
