First time. Family met for breakfast. As a midwesterner loved the southern menu options; grits, fish, pork sausage, etc.
Consulted only breakfast options. Lunch available but cannot comment on it.
Breakfast options included combos with eggs, choice of meats, choice of grits or hash browns. I selected scrambled egg, hash browns, hash with side of grits and a biscuit.
Yummy food. Others in my party had different combos and no one complained of the food.
Some said they did have to add a little salt to the eggs or grits. Who needs extra salt anyway?
I enjoyed my grits wo adding salt. Everything I ate was good.
I would return.
Nice staff. Very attentive. Biscuits are the best!! Omelets are tasty. A nice local New Bern southern feel to the restaurant.
It's okay. It's exactly an okay diner. I mean, the locals tout it as some kind of amazing local secret, serving outstanding, genuine southern eats. But... it's a diner. They serve diner grade food and biscuits and gravy at a low price. Definitely go eat there once. Get a tee shirt. But if you find it to be a rare gem, you should also go look at yourself in the mirror. Evaluate your life choices.
The Country Biscuit makes the best biscuits in town, hands down. Substantial and tangy, like a real southern biscuit ought to be. Portions are generous, and the staff seems more relaxed and efficient with the changes the new owner has put in. My bacon was flavorful and as crispy as I asked for. The chicken and dumplings was more flavorful than other places. As far as clientele...it's always been diverse as far as age and race, and I keep seeing the same faces so people must be treated decently because they keep coming back.
