Overall good, not a huge fan of the 18% gratuity added simply because of bad experiences with similar style restaurants in the past. Collard green and sausage appetizer was great, shrimp and grits is okay, just not my speed, and the steak was fantastic.
Now.. to the downside... Banana Pudding. Calling that banana pudding should be a crime. I understand that places want to put a twist on traditionally southern food, but the waiter told another table that it was the best banana pudding he had ever had and I feel sorry for him if it really is.
It was a fun and very good restaurant, definitely worth a trip.
Plum has a great atmosphere and the decor is really beautiful, I love the quilts hanging on the walls. The food was so delicious! The chicken and dumplings in particular was exceptional. The steak and chimichurri was so fresh and well done. Oh my god and the hush puppies were to die for, and a fun twist. They also change their menu to reflect foods that are in season, which i really appreciate. The dishes are thoughtful and the perfect amount. Can’t wait to try more at Plum!
So lucky to find Plum. Design, space, menu, food, drink and service are totally on point. We had the chicken and dumplings. The chicken and Parisian gnocchi are fantastic, but the gravy soaking the gnocchi/carrots/peas stole the show. To top it off, the banana pudding was off the charts - just the right amount of sweet and banana with the most satisfying smooth texture. The staff clearly love what they do. The service is helpful and lovely from start to finish. Plum could be in any city and be a monster hit. Durham is so lucky.
Lovely food. Southern style, very friendly wait staff. Great labels for gluten free and vegan options. Bartender made our drinks to order. Family run. Outdoor seating was perfect, if you don't have reservations be prepared to wait. It's worth it!
Holy heck, this is easily one of my favorite places in Durham after one visit. Got a carry-out order and every single dish was phenomenal. Chicken and dumplings and the eggs were particularly delicious, they have a lot of complex flavors. The stroganoff has very tender beef.
Staff is so friendly - probably because they are paid a living wage (which makes me even happier to support the restaurant). The space is really beautiful, and it looks like there is a private room that can be rented as well, and I think it works well because everyone will find someone great.
