I recently visited the area for a golf retreat with 2 of my best friends and my 21 year old son. He's in college and I wanted to make his 21'st birthday memorable. We rented an Airbnb cabin for a weekend male bonding and golf.
After 18 holes of golf on the finest golf course I've personally ever played on, our foursome was famished. We elected to stay on property and eat since we had drank beers while golfing and the mountain roads were dangerous enough for a completely sober driver. The dining room wasn't open yet so we had about 15 minutes to kill, so we had a round of drinks in the bar.
We were pleased to be greeted by a charming bartender that had a great sense of humor and really seemed to enjoy our company. Within a few short minutes we were seated by our hostess on the deck.
Our waitress Sarah was very courteous and welcoming. She was quick bring us some fresh bread to munch on and recommended the prime rib, which we all were smart to take her advice. I had the prime rib with baked potato and zucchini. It was truly the best prime rib I had ever had.
Cooked to perfection, you could literally cut it with your fork. I was drinking water, since I was driving. My mates were enjoying beers and cocktails. I usually skip desert, but we were having such a good time, I ordered one of everything. Sarah brought us key lime pie, blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream, berry patch pie with vanilla bean ice cream, and chocolate cake. By far the key lime pie was my favorite, but all were outstanding. It's worth mentioning, each time Sarah would come and check on us, we would have the most wonderful conversation. We were interested to learn that besides being a phenomenal waitress, she also was a school teacher and an uber driver. Apparently she had lived in the area all her life and could name all the visible mountain peaks and point them out to us. Then Sarah did something that surprised me. She told us that a sweet woman in the dining room was here celebrating her 78th birthday and that she wanted us to join her singing Happy Birthday.
This is not something I would normally do. My buddies were feeling no fear from the liquid courage they'd been drinking, so I wasn't about to chicken out. So we got up as a group, walked into the dining room with Sarah, and came right up to her table and sang. Beautifully I might add.
We were all happy to sing for her and it absolutely made her day. She was so sweet and thanked us all. My son went over and gave her a hug. We stayed for a couple more rounds of drinks so that we could watch the sun go down over the mountains.
I'm so glad we ended up staying there for dinner rather than driving into Burnsville. We take some kind of men's trip every year and when we go out, we always try to find the best restaurants to provide us with the best memories possible. This tops them all and Sarah was a huge part of it.
I'm sorry if I've rambled on and haven't really said all that much about the food, but this experience was so much more than fine dining.
