Excellent experience. Food was great and the staff were friendly. I look forward to going back!
The staff was incredibly friendly. We were heading in a little close to when they close, but they were still friendly and invited us in. The food was perfect diner food. Whatever they put on there potato curls is amazing. Keep it up.
Bitter coffee. Asked server if burgers we're cooked to temp and she said yes. Burger came out well done rather than medium. Egg on burger was covered in cheese so the yolk didn't ooze onto the burger as expected. The yolk spurted out one cheese hole. The breakfast potatoes were thick unseasoned chips with 5 cooked julienne peppers and onions. The menu states there is a daily jam... No jam. All the people are very nice and the food was ok. The food def wasn't bad but I got nothing as advertised.
In a nut shell: quality ingredients, but missing flavor. Have salt shaker on-hand.
We went to 416 for Sunday brunch. Great Dayton atmosphere, cozy. Friendly service. Good menu selection. Accommodating to adjusting menu ingredients. And food was served timely.
The food presentation was good and on par with a diner setting. You can’t judge diners on exotic presentations popularized on TV cooking shows. The ingredients were quality: no canned mushrooms, no cheap food-feel in the mouth.
The only problem was flavor, and the simple remedy was salt. I am amazed how many restaurants fumble here. It is a simple thing, cook with salt to get great flavor. Salt, fat, acid, heat: these are the four main traits every good dish should have. The primary for flavor is salt. Salt, man. Salt.
Sausage gravy had good texture, but no salt. After about 1/8 tsp of added salt, presto! Great dish. Had a great omelette, but little flavor because no salt. This is a mistake. Guests should not be left to make the flavor themselves. This is basic.
I come down hard on this point because I did enjoy the place, and when you walk in you expect the food to taste great; it smacks of a place you see on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I really want it to do well, and I want to come back. In fact I plan on it. But, if the next time I visit results in another flavorless experience, it may be the last visit for me.
