Cal's Chicago Style Eatery

The casual 50s diner decor was nice, not overdone and pretty authentic. Food was excellent. Unfortunately they increased menu prices a few months ago and, coincidentally or not, the place is now closed.

Cal's Chicago Style Eatery is tucked into the shopping center west of Dental Depot off Hefner Road. The establishment was decorated in a "old style diner fashion". The staff members and owners were very friendly, nice, and genuine people.

We ordered their Gyro Special when it was in action, and was not disappointed! The gyro sandwich by itself cost $6+tax, which is affordable and appropriately priced amongst the gyro competition. The sandwich comes in an abundance of vegetables, along with - of course - the wonderful gyro meat. If you are a Tzatziki sauce fan, you have to ask for the sauce. The gyro sandwich itself was not too oily and with good flavors. And with the special - buy one, get one free - it was even better! Wanting to try out more of their food, we ordered a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with a side order of fries - and we were not disappointed! The meat was flavored correctly, cheese melting, and the fries in the "fried once" style (basically crispy on the outside, very soft in the inside). All in all, the food was very delicious.

There wasn't a lot of people when we went, but there were a steady stream of people coming in for take outs and dining in alike. Will have to try their Chicago Dogs next time!

Stopped by for the first time recently and all I can say is why did I wait so long?? I ordered the Original Philly and can say without hesitation that it is one of the best ones I've had in a really long time. I ordered the combo with fries & a drink to go and the service was quick and everybody was super friendly. Now that I know what I was missing I'll definitely be back and take some co-workers for lunch.

Cal's Chicago Eatery is one of my favorite local restaurants. They make excellent Italian Beef, Italian Sausage, and Philly Cheeses teak Sandwiches. My favorite things to get are the Gyros, Gyros Salad, and Pickle Fries. Cal's isn't stingy with the the meat either, they pile it on very generously. If you're out and about in NW OKC give Cal's a try, you won't regret it.

AMAZING food, and the owner was really friendly! We've tried the gyro, the cheeseburgers, the Philly, the fries, and the pickle fries. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were huge. The regular fries are pretty standard, but those pickle fries are awesome! The gyro was bigger than my 3 year old's head - the thing was massive. I'm a grown man, and the gyro took 2 hands to attack. The meat was piled high, and the sauce perfect. The Philly was blazing hot and took a few minutes to cool down, but it was delicious! You can really tell when a restaurant uses fresh ingredients. Even the peppers on the Philly you could tell where fresh and not frozen. We went here on a Saturday at noon, and I don't know how there isn't a line out the door. We'll be back for sure!
