Upstairs Bar & Grill

Clam chowder was good, possibly more clams would have made it better. Flavor of the fresh fish sandwich was overpowered by sauce on the bun. Fish and chips was better. Visited on a Friday evening. It did seem as though they were a bit short staffed. Drink order got a little mixed up but that was fixed immediately. Waited for ranch for a bit but ended up having to go ask for it at the bar. Bar was loud and packed in a positive way, complete with modern day pirate toting parakeet. We were celebrating a birthday. Server brought a surprise birthday drink that did not disappoint, try the captain on acid!

Delightful local watering hole but never felt exclusionary coming from a coast visit. Good whiskey sours were delivered by an attentive server. Good bar fare (we got the fried Mac n cheese bites but there were oyster shooters among other things) and delicious fish-packed sandwich (well made side of ries too). Also had a cute little Wednesday cribbage tournament going.

Very friendly people. Only serve their own beer which normally I'd say was not a bad thing but their WEAKEST beer is 6% and the type I'd normally drink is nearly 8%. Too strong! I like to "drink beer" not "get drunk". I heard another table having the same conversation with the waitress.
I had the fish (cod) and chips which I'd describe as 'average'.

This oddly-named single level establishment is simultaneously the best, worst, largest, and smallest bar in Oceanside. Typical neighborhood blue-collar watering hole with friendly staff and local color. Standard pub fare is well-prepared and very affordable. Breakfast was greasy in a good way, eggs fried in the residual thick-cut bacon grease... just the way I like it. It's most notable trait might be its generous covered outdoor seating with accompanying ocean-facing view. A nice place to stop in after a road trip to the coast.

We enjoyed our dinner so much we came back again the next day. The bar area is a little noisy, but they have tables at the far end that are more quiet. The food was amazing and the server covered a very large area and was friendly and responsive! Looks like a local place, with great food and good prices!
