I had a good experience here earlier this summer and would recommend giving this course a try. The price is reasonable and the greens were in good shape on the weekend we played. You can also book tee times online which is a nice feature when trying to organize your group.
The day our group came there was an outing scheduled to start at 10am but other groups who were set to go out before them. The clubhouse was a bit chaotic but a nice gentleman got us squared away and had us start on hole 7 to make sure we could finish without being held up by the outing.
I'm not a good golfer so every course is challenging for me but I also didn't feel like any of the holes were too daunting for a high handicapper.
Ladies take my warning dont leave and start a new foundation in other land especially leaving America that will give the opposite a swing...
Very good experience and really good greens, particularly for a public course. Also, fairways are very well groomed. I've played at most every country club in greater Pgh area and while 3 Lakes isn't up there with the big four or five, it's the most challenging public course I've played-challenging because of relatively fast greens(not as fast as they used to be but lightning compared to other public courses) and hills.
I had my son out who has just started to learn the game and we had a great time. The people there were professional, helpful and friendly, from the pro-shop to the restaurant they have on site. Getting a tee time online was also really convenient. They make it easy just going to their website. I selected "special" and we got a discounted rate. The person in the pro-shop pointed out that my son was a Jr and we paid even less-he didn't have to do that.
It was $30 for me and $22 for my son. While that's not the cheapest, considering the quality and challenge of the course, how close it is to Pittsburgh, it is a very good value.
I just read the last review and am astonished at the opinion of the banquet staff. We had an entirely different experience. We had 180 people and reserved all 3 rooms. Everyone was wonderful, especially Sue. Our photos on the course are beautiful and there was no charge for the golf carts! Our son Joe was given 4 free rounds of golf which he used with his groom's man the day before our wedding and they loved it. The entire event was better than we expected
