I was happy to finally enjoy a pass up Penn Avenue in West Reading, Pennsylvania on a recent July Saturday afternoon. But, Oye! Vuz I hungry?! After a short stroll from where I parked, a short flight of steps up from the sidewalk took me through a posh porch and into Bar Cart. (Much more for me to write, and for you to read in a separate review about the beautifully designed and obviously thoroughly thought out suds, vino, and cocktail parlour playing host to Matt and his slammin' sammy's on said Saturday.)
But seriously! I was hungry. A quick inquiry of a polite chap to my left (😉) schooled me that, well yes, food was being served that day by (No way!) Matt's Chicken. As in Matt's Chicken of Shillington Farmer's Market, of a prior review, infra.
Matt, and his equally astute and friendly operating associate (that day at the very least) who's name sadly escapes me, further informed me that, yes, they were there for the day, had been prepping, braising, grilling, and serving pretty much all day non-stop, were just about to call it a day, but could definitely make me a Buffalo Chicken jawn with real (creamy/crumbly) blue cheese, "And those sliced pickles, right?", yes, with pickle slices, on a (oh, God, finally....a decent) brioche bun.
I'm going to have to return to Matt's back at SFM to experience a more nuanced, stream of consciousness thought/sensation consumption experience. And not just house another sandwich as I did the Buffalo Chicken at Matt's Pop-up that day at Bar Cart, where the absolute (that day's truck) freshness of every last ingredient speaks another world of knowledge, skill, and craftsmanship that one must experience to believe. Bravo Matt and your lovely associate. (And thank you for the 4-1-1, chap to my left.)

Matt's Chicken at Shillington Farmers Market

I was lured by the aroma of the lunch of a young associate of a business I patronize, and to thus check out the burger game of Matt's chickens in the Shillington (Pennsylvania) Farmer's Market.

A short stroll around the relatively small but well curated and clean farmer's market led me to Matt's lunch counter with the proprietor and (I believe) another family member attending.

Order:
The "Smashburger", two beef patties, Special Sauce (Yum! And not Thousand Island dressing or some overly smokey affair that would compete too heavily with the burger), nice and salty shoestring style fries, and a hearty serving of housemade lemonade.

Damage:
About $16.

Yes, I know, "What about the chicken?" It'll have to be next time. Too full and not enough time to savor what I'm told is some good chicken.

"Why the four stars for service?"

I'll just say if a customer asks for a fork or something else relevant to the consumption of a meal, and you "don't have any", do as my mom would say when faced with a similar request at our family dinner table. "GO GET ONE".

SO good. Small, simple menu with specials. Damn near everything is house made. The smash burger is the best I’ve ever had! Clearly a ton of love and care goes into this stand. Thanks for the extra pickles!

My entire family is addicted to these chicken sandwiches and we go every weekend! Matt and his mom are beyond lovely. Best place ever!!

Best burgers, chicken sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches around. Quality ingredients and a chef who knows how to use them. Can't recommend enough.
