I ate here for the first time the other day. Several of my friends and family rave about the place and now I see why. The food was excellent and very fairly priced. The burrito I had was wonderfully seasoned and the portion was large. I really liked the dining area which is wide open, bright, and spotlessly clean. The waitress was fast, friendly, and ready to help. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick quality meal in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Great spot for delicious food that's easy on the wallet. Staff is friendly and everything is tasty.

Stopped in for the first time today. I ordered a burrito that was the size of my forearm, served with three sauces, including an incredible cheese sauce. I can find a complaint about nearly anything I eat but I was too busy enjoying my meal to do that here. This is among the best food I've ever eaten in the Valley.

El Zocalo is an unassuming downtown restaurant conveniently located on public square. Don't let its lack of the typically overwrought "Mexican" trappings fool you--the food is fantastic and thankfully more Mexican than the often heavily watered down Tex-Mex that passes for "Mexican food" the further you get from larger urban centers with viable Mexican-American communities.
The tacos are real tacos. None of that Taco Bell nonsense. Fresh cilantro, white onion, lime wedge, and hot salsa can compliment your lightly and perfectly toasted tortillas when opting for something like the al pastor, lengua, tripas or carnitas.
The price point is perfect as well. The menu features a 3-for-$8.50 taco deal or you can mix and match a la carte.
The only downside might be the effect their takeout volume has on the dine-in experience, as the sole employee handles both the takeout/delivery and sit-down services. Nonetheless: convenient, authentic, and inexpensive lunch spot.
