Wow Good food in the middle of NOWHERE! Fried green tomatoes were great. Crab cakes were good and big portions. All outdoor seating under the shade of the oak tree.
Will go back next vacation! We went here around 3-4 times during the week, everything is delicious. Prices are decent for seafood being on an isolated island - around Olive Garden pricing.
This is our second time staying on the island and we were more than excited to visit Lucy Bell's again. They play some oldies music and have seating under the tree, which is draped with Spanish Moss! The atmosphere, staff and food are all superb. Lucy Bells is very laid back and everything is made to order, so please don't rush this experience.
We were extremely grateful to have been given the same exact hospitality as last year and cant wait to visit again next!
We rolled up in our golf carts, went inside and ordered at the register. A very nice man took our order and we got our sweet tea. Not overly sweet, good flavor! Outside under the beautiful shade tree to wait. Only about 5 minutes and our food was brought out to us. Party of 10, everything was correct and looked amazing. It tasted just as good! Po boy, fish tacos, pico and chips, Turkey sandwich and the deviled crab, with very large peel and eats as one of my sides. Their menu is large and they seem to do a steady flow of business. This was the highlight of our day on Daufuskie!
Any review has to be in the context of Daufuskie island which is not accessible by car. It is a wonderful natural playground where golf carts are the main mode of transportation. It's a very laid back place where mainland thinking does not apply.
Having noted that, what I liked was the truly outdoor dining that's all patio furniture. Our weather was hot and humid, but the shade provided by the large trees with Spanish moss hanging down, was delightful. There is no inside dining, so bad weather would simply be unacceptable.
The kitchen and where you order is in what I think used to be a small house. The menu has a lot of local fish related entries. The food quality was OK and prices were about what you'd expect when they have to bring everything in by boat, on the pricey side. There are only a few places to eat and the audience has few other choices.
I am guessing the service was a family based operation. You order and they bring it out to you. The "server" was a young teenage boy who was pleasant enough.
So did I like it? Not so much. It wouldn't survive on the mainland where it would be called a dump with better valued full service restaurants
