Powder House

Food was excellent and service was very good. Enjoyed it so much that we came two times during our five night visit to the area. Baseball steaks were delicious and perfectly cooked. They could rival any Ruth’s Chris or Morton’s, but at a reasonable price. Chicken parm and cordon blue were both very good. Parking lot was tight, and be prepared to have a short wait for a table, but they have a small bar in the back and you can have a drink on the patio while waiting. So glad we happened to find this gem.

Very friendly staff and check in and at the restaurant in the morning. Clean room with extra towels and dog friendly. Only $15 per pet! Dinner is popular though so call to be placed on the waitlist if you’re headed that way. Looked like they had a decent selection of wine and a nice dinner menu. Breakfast was great and they give you a nice big cup of coffee.

I’m from Louisiana and my husband is from NYC. We know good food and we’re picky. We didn’t come to the Mount Rushmore area for the food. The Powder House Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. It’s the best food I’ve ever head in a “square state” 😅. I had a 12 oz ribeye and twice baked potato and my husband had the wild game platter with Buffalo, elk, and quail. Everything was delicious. The meat was cooked exactly how we ordered. I didn’t feel like the steak needed any sauce. This place doesn’t look “touristy” but delivers. Make a reservation or check in online or you may wait over an hour for a table. Our children were also well taken care of. The bartender gave our four year old cherries and lemonade and a hostess brought our little one colors and a coloring page when she saw he was unhappy. Highly recommended.

Restaurant Review: The Powder House restaurant food and service were excellent. The Pork shank and Powder House chicken were outstanding. We wanted to sit outdoors on their popular porch so we had to wait, but we were able to have a drink outdoors while waiting. Even though it was an hour within closing they got us in, fed us and were pleasant. Great customer service from the mature hostess as well as the server. Most dinners are between $10 and $20 per person.

The service was just okay but the food was very good. We tried a variety of dishes and they were all delicious, from the steak to the pasta. Definitely recommend
