The Southern Steak & Oyster

The Southern is a downtown Nashville place where locals go to eat. There are plenty of tourists as well, but you know if it’s a local favorite it has to be good. The bathrooms are honestly too few for ladies but you have to go to see the movie they have going to keep you occupied and I always seem to have nice conversations with people in line. Our favorite dishes there are the ribs, the BBQ shrimp (not that spicy), the blue cheese and steak biscuits. The blue cheese flavor is subtle) Don’t pass on the offered bread at your table because they are small pops of cheesy herb biscuits that will get your mouth watering for what’s to come! If you still have room at the end, the bread pudding is great but you have to dip it in the sauce on your plate for the full flavor. Enjoy!

Nice place with great smells and food. Had about an hour wait before being seated on a Sunday evening. That wait time made me even hungrier. Baby back ribs were delicious. Meat fell off the bone. Sweet potato fries and biscuits were great sides. Service was great. I recommend eating here!

I went for lunch here with a friend of mine. The $10 burger was great. Nothing too fancy, but a burger doesn't need to be. You'd be hard pressed to find a better $10 burger downtown I think. They also have these super cool mechanical fans, so don't forget to look at the ceiling at least once while you eat!

I am in Nashville 4x per year for business. The Southern is a must every time. The steak is great, but my wife and I go for the Oysters. We love to sit on the backside of the bar, something about those seats make the experience fantastic. Great bartenders, great booze, unbelievable oysters!!!

Came with a large group and had a wonderful experience. Service was fantastic - especially since we were a 30+ group. Each stage of the meal kept moving. Good quality was amazing. Particularly liked the steak sliders on a biscuit and the catch of the day with sweet potato fries - both were amazing!!! Highly recommend this spot.
