Omg! I can't even remember the last time I had such amazing food! That chicken was so juicy, so crispy, and just so flavorful! Even the Waffles were to die for. My kids ate every single bit of their chicken tenders and the cheese grits! Ooh the fried green tomatoes were so hot and perfectly cooked! My husband had the chicken fried steak and just couldn't stop moaning after ever single bite. They were the nicest people, the restaurants is beautiful and overall the experience was wonderful. I will definitely be back. That chicken is addictive!
We came from out of town to try this place (Huebner location) after seeing a review on YouTube. We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and smiling faces, eager to try some southern comfort food. Our waiter was nice, but seemed distracted. My husband and I both ordered a number 5 with Mac and cheese as our meal. I ordered mine with a side of brown gravy as well.
After about 10 minutes after ordering our waiter came back and asked me what side I wanted with my meal again, and what type of gravy. I repeated my order and asked if I could add another side to our meal (collard greens) he said sure and trotted off.
About 10 minutes after that we received one side of Mac and cheese by itself. We were confused, but since we were hungry and didn’t order an appetizer we shared it. That cup seemed to be the last of the batch. Coagulated and bland, but we spiced it up and ate anyway. Minutes pass by and we receive our side of collard greens. Again kind of confused as to why sides were coming out alone, we chalked it up to another appetizer course and ate anyway. Those were delicious! Full of flavor. About 10 minutes after that our meal comes out. One plate with a side of Mac and cheese, the other alone since that Mac and cheese played as an appetizer. I didn’t have the gravy as ordered so I let the waiter know, who returned minutes later with white gravy. I left it alone and ate anyway, which I’m glad because it was delicious as well.
The waffles seems a little sad, great flavor but super floppy as if they weren’t cooked long enough and the chicken was soggy and grease logged.
TL:DR- this place has great potential. While some flavors were there, the food was lacking passion. We will give the other location a try, and are hoping this was just a hum drum hour on the weekend. :)
Nice atmosphere. Friendly and attentive air staff. Drinks are served in a large Mason jar along with cornbread. The menu is full of comfort food. The chicken fried steak was perfect, but I could've used a bit more gravy. There was none on my mashed potatoes. ☹
The breading was light and perfect. Will definitely be back!
My coworker and I went to have lunch last week, curious how the southern comfort food was going to be. I had read the reviews and there were a few that didn't have a good experience but I wanted to check it out for myself.
It was busy when we got there but we got a table quickly. They served us the complimentary cornbread which was tasty and that was already kind of filling. My friend definitely wanted to try the chicken and waffles. I had the 2-piece fried chicken (drumstick) with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. The fried chicken was juicy, delicious and well-seasoned. My friend had ordered fried green tomatoes and they were good. I only had one piece of my fried chicken and took home the rest of the food. We both had drinks and they came in a huge mason jar.
Overall, a very good experience and would come back to try the shrimp and grits.
