The String Bean Restaurant

I recently shared a meal with a friend at The String Bean in Richardson. It's a warm, inviting atmosphere that features traditional Southern home cooking. All of the entrees I've had have been good to very good. This most recent visit I had the pot roast with brown gravy. My sides were green beans and Southern greens. The pot roast is very tender and pleasantly spiced. The brown gravy is done right: both flavor and consistency are good. One criticism for some about the pot roast is that it does not come with potatoes, carrots and onions. That was fine with me as I'm avoiding carbs. The green beans were tender and the greens seemed fresh. I also appreciate that the waitress brought pepper sauce for the greens.

We didn't try out the bar this time, but when I've had drinks there they have been very good. The wine selection is limited, but then this is a home cooking kind of place and so I wouldn't expect a long wine list. We also didn't have any dessert this time; however, I recommend the blueberry cobbler if you can stand the carbs!

I'm only giving this a 4 star rating because I reserve 5 stars for nothing but the absolute best. Don't let that rating fool you. You should definitely consider adding The String Bean to your regular rotation if you enjoy this type of food.

Had an office birthday celebration at the restaurant. The food was great as expected, but let me tell you about their service. We called about 10 minutes prior to arriving for a group of 16 people. They were ready for us, professional, friendly, plus they put on a show. Everyone left with a smile and full belly, while the birthday girl left with a Polaroid picture taken by the staff and a heart filled with memories. If I must offer an area for improvement, it would be to stead up the service. We were there longer than we expected. However our server was a shining star. I hope the rest of the party tipped her well, because she deserved it. Spectacular service, great food, and impressive server!

This is a wonderful restaurant. Such a friendly staff. The food was fantastic! No one in our party got a bad dish. Everything was delicious. The rolls and cornbread are awesome! Pot Roast is heaven. Veggies fantastic. Anita is the friendliest waitress I've ever had. Wonderful service, funny, professional, and had us leaving there with a huge smile on our faces, and a warm feeling in our hearts. Rarely have I left a restaurant on such a high. She is tops!!! Love this place!!

String bean is a good place to go with your small child who won't sit still. Theres a playroom they can go and be active in with the other kids and that makes me happy because my wife and I can eat in relative peace while occasionally checking on him. String bean has a home in our rotation :)

Good food and good people. Very busy when we were there but they handled us well. Buffet is a little expensive for those of us who cannot eat a lot. We had the breakfast brunch buffet and food was well done with eggs, waffles, biscuits, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls and more. The food was better than I normally get at a buffet.
