Great beef tartar and temparillo. Like the quaint atmosphere. Great date spot. Friendly and respectful staff. Easy parking.
Good food, very decent prices for the wine and beer. We had a lovely long meal sitting out on the patio on a nice evening. The dessert is huge by the way. Service was friendly and very competent. Overall would probably go again, but the food is a little short of being among Houston's top foodie restaurants (though it's still very good).
Winner, winner chicken dinner was sooooooo good. Can't beat getting a whole deep fried chicken! The chocolate coconut cream pie was pretty good. Definitely not what I expected. Not too sweet and the flavors went well together.
The two-dollar sign symbol for Nobie's is a bit misleading for consumers. It is much closer to more expensive, three-dollar sign restaurants that have adopted the concept of small dishes for sharing. Each dish averages out to be $13, but hungry customers will need at least 2 dish per person to be satiated. Therefore, the prices are a bit more upscale than the rustic exterior will suggest.
That being said most of the dishes were simple and elegant with one or two uncommon ingredients for a blend that is both familiar and exotic. Nobie's chefs pull it off very well in terms of presentation and taste, and I appreciate the fact that food is delivered immediately as soon as it's ready; I never understood why all dishes had to be ready before being delivered to customers. I personally enjoyed the "Don't Worry Brie Happy', which I admittedly got due to its name and was pleasantly surprised. The dish was essentially 4 ingredients --bread, brie, honey, and grapes, but each item was done well, especially the bread and grapes, which were smoked.
I came at a relatively low-traffic time this time, so service was superb, but I wish that the restaurant offered some reservations at least. I remember being told to wait 45 mins the first time I came there during standard dinner time, and that was a bit unpleasant.
Overall, while the food is surprisingly good despite being almost austere, the price and portion does not justify a 5-star rating for me. I may return to Nobie's every so often if the menu includes something that piques my interest, but it will be infrequent.
Great atmosphere. Superb service. Excellent execution on each of the 8+ plates we tried. Reasonable portions and rare value at this price point. Dynamic menu will make for a unique experience, time in and time out! Not to mention a more than serviceable spirit and wine menu. Well done!
