The Runaway Plate

The place has two separate menus, Runaway plate and southwest grill. The food was ok, not bad, but not great either. Service was excellent. We got fried pickle spears and they were pretty good. We were told by the server that it was happy hour and appetizers were at a reduced cost. The fried pickles list price was 5$ and I was charged 5$. We both got hamburgers and they were a little dry. My wife loved the coleslaw and the fries were good. The price, at least on the burgers, is NOT CORRECT. Online, as well as the Runaway Plate menu, the hamburgers are listed at $6.99 and add 1$ for fries. When we ordered the server said that fries come with the burger. When I got my bill the hamburgers with fries were $10.99 each, 3$ more each plate than the listed price. Prices online and on menu need to reflect what customers will be charged. I'm 50/50 on whether I will come back.

I stopped by on the way home to pick up food for the 6 of us. 4 kids meals and 2 regular meals. The kids all ate everything and wanted more and the meals that I got for the wife and I were well prepared and very delicious.

Very friendly staff! Chef/owner came out to meet us. Our huge hamburgers were amazing. That coleslaw was wow! And I’m not a coleslaw person! But I ate it all!!! Even our furbaby was greeted with a bowl of water and doggie bone!! Easy access from to IAH!

Awesome small business restaurant! Chicken fried steak was amazing and crispy, burgers are tender and tasty, sweet tea is what it should be, banana pudding cheesecake was good too (portion could have been bigger for the price). Good atmosphere and a great place to celebrate 10 years with my beautiful wife!
