This small, family owned German restaurant is always a treat to visit. The dill dressing on the salad is to die for along with the homemade flourless bread! Come prepared to spend a quiet evening with your significant other or your family.

Greenwoods is an institution in Fort Worth. Their food is by far the most authentic, with a welcoming atmosphere, and a fantastic selection. Tuesday night is schnitzel night, which I would highly recommend. Also, I have been going for well over 10 years now, and I have never had a soup I didn't like. Do yourself a favor and try this family owned establishment out.

I've been eyeing Greenwood's for a long time, and I finally stopped in this past Saturday night. Parking was a non-issue since we chose to walk. Bonus date time if you ask me!

Walking in, I was surprised to see the number of tables inside. I had an image in my mind that seating would be limited. There was plenty of room! There were about 8 other parties seated throughout enjoying their food or drinks at 7:30 pm.

Our server, Billy, returned to our table to check on us since I was taking a long time to decide what I wanted. I settled on #12- german noodles with ham, cheese au gratin, and onions. My partner chose 10-A, the schnitzel with a side of sauerkraut.

After we ordered, we had rye bread delivered to our table. I told myself I was not going to eat any because of all the food that was about to arrive, but so much time passed, that I went for it. The rye bread was so good, I didn't stop at just one. Yum Yum Yum.

The side salad arrived 15 minutes after ordering. It was one of the best simple side salads I've had. It consisted of lettuce, sliced bell peppers, shredded carrots, thinly sliced cucumbers and was drizzled in what the sever called, pickle ranch. The ranch also had a lot of dill in it, which I love. Not sure if they make their own dressing, but it is delicious. I'm going to try to recreate it at home.

After more than 30 minutes from the time we ordered, our entrees arrived. They looked delish!! My noodles were piping hot. My partner's food was not as hot, but still fresh. Of the two dishes, I definitely won the who-picked-best game. I will say the pan fried potatoes and sauerkraut were the highlights of his dish. I loved the small pieces of potato that were extra crisp. The sauerkraut was very good and I even put it on top of my noodles. Here's the down low on #12. The cheese is gooey and EVERYWHERE. You will get a massive cheese pull when you dig into this dish. The ham pieces are thick and generous, not incy wincy bites. If you are needing a comfort food in your life, this is the dish you want. Forget mac and cheese, now I will crave #12! So after the bread and salad, I ate what I thought was a good amount and it looked like I barely touched it. Even the owner/chef came by and mentioned it. Haha. All that to say, it is a huge portion and you will have plenty leftover.

Even after all that food, we decided to order the Vanilla Ice Wrap because you know, why not? OH my word, y'all. This was AMAZING! The warm, soft, grilled banana with a crepe and cold ice cream with chocolate sauce. Oh yesss. That grilled banana was gold. Why have I never made that at home?! As I told Billy, we devoured that dessert. It was gone within two minutes. My only suggestion is to serve it with spoons instead of forks. It was embarrassing trying to get every last drop with a fork. :)

Greenwood's could improve on three areas: speed of cook time, indoor lighting, and the bathroom. The bathroom was cramped and reminded me of a gas station bathroom. A nice picture and a candle could make it much nicer.

Overall, it was a highly enjoyable date night. It was a bit pricey at just over $50 after tip, but Greenwood's is perfect if you want a slow, steady dinner with good food and a comfortable atmosphere.
