Trudy's South Star

I love Trudy's. It has always been great eating here and sharing the company of friend. I love the food and atmshpere. On April 5th I had a bad experience. I was celebrating my birthday with 4 friends. I had never received this type of treatment in Austin. The only thing that the server did without being asked is to take my drink order. I took the menu from one friend that had arrived before me. Our server never stop by the table and asked how we were doing. I had to call her to take my order over an hour after I arrived because I could not find her or get her attention. It took over 30 minutes for my refill of coke to arrived which I needed not to choke on my food that arrived very timely but I had run out of water and it was not refilled once. The server did tell me that the fountain drink machine was out of soda. I am not sure why it had to take over 30 minutes to get replaced. We had to asked for our ticket twice. The server was just short with us. There was also a faint smell of sweat or urine that was not pleasant. Love Trudy's and will go again in the hopes that this is not repeated.

The place has a great patio area, try the Mexican martinis, for 50 more cents they upgrade you to top shelf, they are really good.
As for the food, it's good, it won't blow you away, but is good in general, everything I have tried has been tasty, the place gets packed, their happy hour specials are very tempting.

Food and drink were both above average. Service was excellent. Food came out fast considering how busy they were. Lots of drink specials on the menu. Menu contains a good variety of selections. Will definitely be returning.

We visited on a Wednesday, and the happy hour deals are awesome. We had the corn fritters to start and they were real good. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside. The avocado dipping sauce is a perfect complement. Next we had the stuffed shrimp, OMGoodness! These are absolutely worth the trip alone. Do NOT miss these, you will thank me!
