Stopped in on my first night in Austin and was not disappointed. First highlight: it is tucked behind two different bars specializing in tequila/mezcal or whiskey! We chose to pair our tacos with margs at Las Perlas.
My sister shared one of each of the tacos and quesadilla (thanks for the bonus!). They are not small street tacos so sharing is perfect to get a taste of everything. Here is my ranked preference:
5) quesadilla: the crunch of the grilled cheese was awesome, but compared to the tacos is lacked flavor
3 & 4) chicken mole and squash are tied. I don't typically order mole, but this sauce had a rich but not sweet flavor. The squash was cooked to perfection (not soggy) and had a unique (good) seed based mole.
2) chorizo: the sausage chunks had a mild spicy kick and perfect grilled crunch. It lacked just a bit of moisture.
1) barbacoa: hands down one of my favorite meats. It melts in your mouth and was packed with flavor. I didn't want it to end.
Amazing food! Hidden out the back of a bar, we almost missed it but Blair the security guard pointed us in the right direction, so glad he did because the tacos were some of the best we've had. Louis was super nice and gave us recommendations for the next stop on our trip. We wish we could go back for more!
Amazing tacos and totally worth it if you have to wait. Margaritas at the bar nearby really help complete the experience. Beef taco is one of the best things I ever ate.
Great tacos and tons of flavor. Super fresh. Not very filling. Expect to pay about 4.25 a taco
Incredible tacos. Hard to find but go into the bar and follow your nose. Highly recommend the mushroom taco.
