Food is good, prices high ($28 for two people at breakfast), order in line, get your own drinks, silverware and napkins, they do take your plate. Just not impressed.
For being a chain restaurant, la Madeleine pastry cases had a nice selection. I was pleasantly surprised of all of the pastry choices.
I purchased a plain Croissant, a large Palmiers
and a mini lemon tart. I tried the lemon tart right
away and it was just right, not too sweet and just the right amount of tartness.
Pretty decent choices here, given the run down location. Service is condescending and not cordial. I'm guessing the servers and checkout girls are in a misconception that they are actually French born blue blooded chef's, if you know what I mean ????. Wanted to tell them its ok to "serve" the common Texas crowd ????. If you ignore the service the food is pretty good and quality is decent. Seating is typical La Madeline, with a lot of chairs damaged and can hurt kids if they are not careful.
Overall pretty decent for such a location and parking is decent.
As always, the soups are top notch! French onion rocks. What let's it down, is the over-priced sandwiches. A "half" ham and cheese on a baguette runs just under $7, and by half, they keep it authentic with a "French" half sandwich. Barely 3 bites, and you're done. Good selection of pastries too, and all are delicious.
A great place for a quick snack or a hearty meal, equally. Fabulous variety of tasty creative foods. Great ambience, even a fireplace - super cozy for winter. My one regret is that it's... oh... so... expensive... Not even that usual subject of overpriced lore, Whole Foods, charges $4 for a croissant or $5 for a cup of soup...
