We’ve been wanting to check out Mark BBQ in Essex junction that just recently opened. The brisket was good, but maybe not an award winner as advertised (the ones I had were a tad dry, maybe it was just that cut I had) but the dry rub pork ribs were absolutely amazing! Paired with their ‘crack sauce’ (which was so good I bought a bottle) and the bourbon whisky BBQ sauce, these ribs got me to buy a whole other half rack on the spot. The smoked beans were great as well as the Mac n cheese. I also like the clever menu choices on a couple of specials. Good southern/Texas BBQ atmosphere and served with white bread as real BBQ should. We loved the chalk board wall that Scarlett drew all over in between bites. Veteran owned and friendly staff. We’ll definitely go back. A solid B+ @markbbqvt

As a big fan of Mark BBQ I’ve been excited to try out Heart n Soul and I finally got the chance Friday.

Everything was very good, especially the appetizers - specifically the meatballs which had some sort of spicy aioli. We were pretty blown away. The crab hush puppies were good too, but overshadowed by the meatballs.

The chicken fried steak (with risotto) and fried chicken (with truffle mashed potatoes) entrees were excellent as well - see photos. They were prepared and cooked right and not over-seasoned/sauced the way a lot of places in the same price range do.

Our server was incredibly attentive and amiable and really made the experience a positive one. We’ll definitely go back.

Great first experience. Brisket Mac and cheese nachos were great and portion was large. My husband got the burnt ends with a side of Mac, it was appropriately sized for a one person, one meat meal. BYOB and air conditioning for those wondering. This is what bbq is meant to be, no frills just good food. Looking forward to trying more, everything I saw looked equally delicious.

This place is awesome! The food is amazing but what sets it apart is the people who work there! They really give you that local feel! The ribs and pulled pork were to die for! Also 8 sauces! 8 freaking sauces! Definitely a must try

Awesome barbecue. Highly recommend the ribs. The brisket is also very good. No sauce needed.. and to top it off he has some of the best selection of bbq sauces I have ever had, I love them all so much can't even pick a favorite! Chef really loves what he does and has done his homework on the science of low and slow smoke. He's very friendly and open to share some knowledge about what he loves!
