A most amazing experience. Perhaps the best restaurant I've ever eaten in. Worth a stop in Lexington
Best in Town! I have been to the Red Hen about 5 times now over the past two years and I have never been disappointed. A true farm-to-table restaurant, the menu changes constantly as they serve only the freshest ingredients available. I recommend this place to everyone who asks, but make a reservation! The room is small and fills up quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. For what I (and most of the internet) consider the best restaurant in town, it is not formal. There will be people dressed up for anniversary dinners, but there also may be people in shorts. Also I don't think it is expensive at all! Especially if you are used to larger cities. My entree was $22 last time and my husbands was $25. And for the quality it was WELL worth it. The service is excellent, that makes or breaks a place for me and the waiters there are really friendly without being annoyingly chatty. There are many great restaurants in this college town, but make sure you make it to the Red Hen.
We had the most wonderful experience of ALL the restaurants we've been to! We celebrated our birthdays and our engagement. The staff was more than hospitable, and the food was a work of art! As we sat nestled in our cozy corner, under the original windows, watching and listening to a beautiful thunder & lightening storm...we realized we wouldn't have chosen any other place to celebrate our birthdays & new life together!
Thank YOU Red Hen (Head Chef Matt, Chef Pete, Chef Chad & Fabulous Server Amanda), for a memory we'll hold close, throughout our lives together!

We came here for a birthday celebration and on the winter restaurant week and it did not disappoint. I’ve heard people don’t like the prices but with restaurant week, it was a great deal. The service was outstanding down to the little details. They even gave us a little sorbet treat for celebrating a birthday. The meal was tasty. The salad was balanced in sweetness and acidity. The cassoulet was cooked perfectly with yummy bread crumbs but maybe too many beans. The dessert was probably the best part with sweet and savory. Yes these things may not be offered on a regular basic but I bet the typical menu is great as well.
Delicious food. The Chefs take simple meals and add a refreshing creativity. I had the pork chop which, while is was average, came with some of the best grits I've EVER had. People complaining about the pricing probably think a meal price should be based only on the weight. Farm to table taste comes with a price.
