Sam's Uptown Café

Awesome little hole in the wall bar with great food.

Great locals bar with rotating craft drafts. Worst kept secret in Charleston is how good the menu is. Great gastropub fare, killer brunch. Several TVs and and upstairs lounge. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Went in for the Game of Thrones themed brunch. Very creative. Was the first brunch I've been to there. All of our food was great. I had steak and eggs and my friends went with the Lazy Dragon (alligator). I didn't get any of the alligator but it looked fantastic. Won't be my last trip to Sam's. Was a little slow getting food and service but overall very good. Gravy was excellent.

I was in Charleston over the weekend and spent both Saturday and Sunday night at Sam's! Loved the Bold Rock Hard Cider on tap and the food was delicious. The bartenders Randy (the best!) and Brian were awesome! Great place with a nice laid back vibe.

A friend and I went to meet another friend for drinks and dinner. I've been to Sam's Uptown for brunch and have always been pleasantly surprised at the quality and presentation of the food. While we enjoyed our food (I had hot wings and the prime rib sandwich), the service was way off. "We don't get many requests for that" was the response to my drink order of a Manhattan. When our server returned to the table with our beers, she said "we don't have sweet or dry vermouth." I ordered a shot of bourbon which was delivered promptly with our server saying "that's Buffalo Trace." I said that was fine.

When we were finished, our server plunked down the register tape on the table and the third friend who had joined us asked for his to be separated out, since he was in town on business and was on an expense account. After several protests and eye rolls from the server, she went away and came back to ask if a hand-written receipt would be OK. It took several negotiations before she brought a proper receipt.

We each enjoyed our food but not the server.
