Reserved through Resy for the first time and that was slick. Today a review was requested through Resy and when I sent the following it said there was an error so since I took the time to review and Resy would not accept it I'm copying and pasting to Google.
We do love Red. The food was awesome! The items that caused a 4 star review when dining 9/13/20. We thought the prices were higher than last time. That could be due to COVID-19 and needing to increase to stay open. Our wait person cleared a plate with wasabi and ginger on it before we were ready. I spoke up for the ginger and did not for the wasabi but would have preferred the plate to be left since I would have asked for more wasabi but she did not come around soon enough for me to continue eating so I just finished without it. I also did not like the scan QR code for menu, because it did not work for me. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ with most current updates and the QR code scanned each of 3 times and brought up a blank page. I was working to comply and brought up the website menu through Google and she said that menu was not current. We conserve data so I spent data to eventually need a paper menu anyway. Again food was amazing and we were happy to get one of the few remaining dining outside experiences before Wisconsin brings snow and cold. Thank you.
Everything Red prepared was thoughtful, delicious and looked like art on a plate. The sushi was beautiful and delicious. The heirloom tomato salad with walnut pesto was my favorite. Tapioca pudding was the crescendo of the meal.
And I appreciated all the extra precautions the staff made with face-shields masks and gloves to protect themselves and customers during the pandemic. Thank you Red!!
Their sushi rolls were composed very well, straying a bit from the dishes you'll find at regular sushi places. Great selection of sake available as well. A bit pricey, though. For the same price as one of their special rolls, you will normally be able to buy multiple rolls at mid-tier sushi places. A great place to go if you love sushi and dont mind splurging a bit.
Red is a true high spot of Madison cuisine. The Sushi is so
great and the place is very classy and cool at the same time.
Service is excellent thanks to well run operation and great staff.
Great job also doing your very best running
the place during the pandemic in a responsible way
that makes everyone feel safe, both for takeout as
well as dine in on the patio. Thank you!!
